After having adaptive drive, would you go back? :(

Hi guys, my car was just declared totaled yesterday. I have a new car replacement rider on my policy, but it looks like I'd have to get a 2014 model, not a 2015. No X6s are coming off the line right now anyway.

I have a 2012 3.5 with adaptive drive. Since adaptive drive is a priority one option, my dealer can't find any on the ground with it anywhere; either 3.5 or 5.0. Since I can't get that, I'm choosing to upgrade to a 5.0, but after living with AD for 4 years (also in my 2011 x5 for a year), do you think am I going to be unhappy with an X6 without AD? I drive in sport mode exclusively (AD sport, not xmission sport).

Of course I'm grateful that my insurance will probably be paying about 30k more than if I didn't have that coverage, but I still don't want to hate my car. That's why the 1yo x5 magically turned into an x6!

Opinions?

Hate to say it but..

No, I would not go back. I am now driving a 650GC xi and I miss the adaptive drive - yes, I miss it and I'm in a car. So I suspect the difference would be even more noticeable in the X6.

My only recommendation would be to test drive one extensively and see if you notice it. If you do, then I must suggest my old car which for some reason they have priced crazy low. But it has just about every option except for the leather dash and never was in an accident.

I live in Sport mode as well, and to be honest I don't think I'd pay for Adaptive Drive if it had to purchase it again.

If you like to switch back and forth between firm and soft, it's great - but I just don't find myself doing it that much (if ever) so an X5 with Sport suspension would probably do it for me.

The difference in ride between sport and non-sport is not huge. But let's be clear - in non-sport you are still getting the advantages of Adaptive Drive.

Trust me from someone who has had it and lost it, you would miss it - but only if you have had it before. I suspect that most people don't care -the only ones who would/do care are those who have seen what it can do as well as what it does on a regular basis.

It is unfortunate that for 2013 and higher they made it such an expensive option. It wasn't like that in 2012. Yes it cost more, but was not crazy like it became.

Is dynamic performance control an option now too? It was standard on my car. I just watched a video about the 2015 model and the dude said it was 'available'. Geez. It's standard through 2014, right?

My CA said that no one is getting AD (or I guess the dynamic handling package now) because most of their buyers only care about what the car looks like. Taking off the expensive DPC as standard would seem to confirm that.

I like the way my car looks, but I Love the way it drives! (Before last Friday of course). In my opinion, removing both AD and DPC would turn it into a completely different car.

Oh, I know Adaptive Drive does a lot more...but for me I actually somewhat prefer the Sport suspension. I have Adaptive Drive with self-leveling (required for 3rd row) and it always feels like it's moving or thinking too much...the regular Sport is just a little more organic in my mind...at least on the X5s I've driven.

I'm also in the minority that prefers the Sport seats over the Multi-Contour seats...so you may want to take all of this with a grain of salt.

If the choice is a 50i, take it. You will never wipe the grin off your face.

To be fair, I've never driven an X5 with Adaptive Drive. It should drive very similar to the X6 - except I've heard a couple of people now say they thought the ride on the X5 with AD was actually too firm and driving one without AD changed everything for the better. I can say for certain that this was the opposite with the X6. I just can't imagine a better ride in a 5,200lb truck than the X6 with Adaptive Drive.
