Ideas for things to do in Japan

Hello fellow Bimmer fans!

I'm going to Japan (Tokyo and Kuto) the first week of September and I am looking for ideas of things to do. This is my first trip to Asia and we will only be there for 9 days on a tour. There are free days and I was wondering if any of you have advise of what to see and do in these cities. I believe we have a full free day in each city.
What are the can't miss things to do/see there?
In Tokyo we are staying near the Tokyo tower. We also don't read or speak any Japanese.

Thanks

Find a bimmer dealership and take some pictures for us !! then Disney land (they have some freaky haunted house ride over there), check out the car audio stuff they sell there, those technology are like 4 - 5 years ahead of the stuff in NA. Other than that , just the normal sight seeing tour stuff .. enjoy the trip and remember to take a lot of pictures for us !!

Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza - shopping
Akihabara - latest electronic gadgets from Japan
Harajuku - latest fashion from Japan (similar to Soho in NY)
Roppongi - if you are home sick, this place is where the expats hangout
Chiyoda - home of the Imperial Palace
Tokyo Disney Land

You will have some trouble moving around if you don't know how to read or speak the lanaguage. Most locals cannot speak English well.

Great list.......

Shinjuku - I believe this is the area that they always film when they show pictures of tokyo. It has that one huge intersection where you see tons of people crossing the street, with TV screens all around you on every building.

Roppongi is just a huge bar district. It is full of foreigners and the only Japanese people you'll see there are the girls who are looking for that. It doesn't even feel like Japan while you're in that area... But it seems to be a must see spot for all people who go Japan.

Harajuku - I recommend going on a Sat (or was it Sunday)... that's when all the people get dressed up in weird gothic/anime like clothes. That's where Gwen Stefani found the girls for her music videos (hence the name Harajuku girls) and that's what inspired her whole line of clothing/bags.

I agree though, getting around Japan is hard if you don't know Japanese. Probably best to take taxi around and just have your hotel concerage write down locations for you to show the drivers.

Some great tips guys. Please keep them coming. We are taking a day trip out to Mount Fuji. I'm a big photographer so I'd like to find places that look more like typical Japan than the largest tourist place although those can be interesting as well.

Oh and the wife will be going so we will be keeping this trip fairly clean - G Rated. Okay maybe PG.
