2011 X5 vs 2011 X3 ... your thoughts
Hi
Any thoughts on pros of the X5 apart from size and status symbol visa-vis the 2011 X3? Been battling on the two and leaning to order new X3. I have driven the X5 and i find the X3 just enough size as large as the E53, spacious and very agile. |

It is very subjective and I am a believer that you need to be in love with your car, even if it is a Yugo. So the question is, when you see the two side-by-side, which one do you like best? I was looking at a loaded X3 vs the X5 SAV, and it is incomparable, plus the price difference was not that big....

I like the new X3 better than the old, but it is clearly a 1 series interior where the X5/6/5/7 interiors differ greatly. 1/3/X3/Z/M3 One quality level 5/6/7/X5/6/M5/M6 A much higher quality level. So it comes down to what you are looking for.

The new 2011 x3 can get expensive very quickly. Especially with the x3 35i, just by adding the tech pack and premium package your almost already at 50k. If you plan to lease, the current rates are really high. However, at the end, if you like the x3 more, then you should get that.

I spent two weeks trying to decide between fully loaded new X3 35i vs. nicely equipped
X5 35i. After much deliberation I decided on the X5 because (in my opinion): - it looked more aggressive and masculine - I liked the interior more (I was struggling with the hard plastic in a few areas of the X3) - I only drive approx. 16,000 km a year so not too worried about the extra gas required - in Canada a fully loaded X3 is not much less than a very nicely equipped X5, but my dealer really wanted to move a few X5's so gave me a good deal. So better potential for a deal. - If down the road I decide to sell the X5, because I got a good deal on the vehicle, the asking price would look very realistic vs. people's expectations about the cost of the rig. Whereas trying to sell a FULLY loaded X3 may create sticker shock because buyers don't associate such a high a price for the vehicle. So that's my two cents. Like many people on this site told me in the past couple of weeks... you're gonna be happy either way! |

I was in the same boat as to which one to get and went with the X5 instead. For the added $40 a month you get a lot more for the money. I got mine at invoice and the lease was really great.

Fit and finish is much better on the X5. The interior is much more comfortable, roomy, and higher quality. Aside from looks and materials though - drive them both. Try to take good length test drives, or just sit in each for awhile. When all is said and done, that will be where you spend your time (and money).

I agree 100%. As much as I like the exterior of the new X3 (much better than the previous model IMO), I find that the new interior looks a little cheap (especially the front seats). I ordered an X5 without even considering the X3.

My thoughts are that there is no comparison. The new X3 is surely an improvement over the old ugly turd, but the X5 is still the big boss for a reason. I have no desire to drive a smaller truck. Frankly, I wish they had an X7/8

I waited for the new X3 for a loooonnng time & when it finally came out, I was so excited! But, after seen it in person, I quickly realized the difference btw the X3 and X5, especially the interior.

looked at the x3 for about 5 mins and walked away...only a $5k difference and higher apr almost negates the upfront costs. not to mention I'm not a fan of the x3 interior or exterior styling. it feels like a 1 series inside compared to the x5's 5 series. I do however love the lightweight performance of the x3, and gas really isn't an issue as I avg 23mpg currently on my 35i

Totally agree, although I love BMW, don't like the X3 at all, the Q5 is a much nicer car than an X3.

I get to pick up my X5 on Monday and it was a no brainer when looking at them side by side. Also if you are leasing the X5 is the better deal. The interior I put right up there with the 7 series where as the other poster stated the X3 looks like a 1 series. It is a matter of taste but look at them side by side in person and then decide. The dealer I deal with had them actually right next to each other on the showroom floor as was great for doing a comparision.

also why not the e91 if your considering the x3? same interior size, same base motor, lower interest...

Nice to read a set of good "fair" comments, well made... We got the X3 as over here the price difference is larger and the fuel economy is a bigger issue!
Sure all the X5 points are valid but the X3 is a great car and we are thrilled with it, it is the first car we have really "loved!" We actually started looking at the X1 and had the same issue, a well spec'd X1 is as much as a good spec'd X3. We also drove the X5 & X6 and in the end the X3 just suited us better. (Actually dont think you can go wrong whichever you choose!)

I'm actually considering downsizing my wife's X5 to a new X3, I was hoping the interior quality would be better. |
