Another no crank mystery X5 3.0SD 2008
Hello all,
Two weeks ago I went to the shop, spend 20 mins inside and when back in the car I had a no crank situation. Read the fault codes with Thor WiFi module and bimmerlink app. Found codes for all six glowplugs. As we are in the middle of winter here in Sweden with temperature dropping to -30, it would make sense that there would be a protection that if glow plugs or relay would fail the engine would not crank. But I could see that the coolant temperature was still 50°. Tried on the spot the jumper cables to provide good grounding but no avail. Towed the car back home that evening. Had the car in the garage and on charge. Next morning just a click and a buzz. Everything else would start as normal but no crank. Disconnected the IBS, no crank. Still codes for the glow plugs. Checked the ground strap and although slightly corroded it was still in one piece. Set up a (temporarily) new ground strap from top of the engine to chassis. Checked the voltage with multimeter, 12.5 volts. Still no crank. Ordered new glow plugs, relay and starter engine. Fitted everything, still no crank. Checked with INPA, terminal 50, voltage okay, voltage drop to about 11v when pushing start button and amps are flowing as well. Also even after replacing the glow plugs and relay, there are still fault codes for them. Anyone advice on how to proceed? Thank you in advance! |
