X5 Lurches forward trying to idle forward after complete stop
Not sure if I have a transmission problem or a brake problem.
75% of the time whenever I am in D, come to a complete stop, and then let off the brake to idle forward the car lurches forward. The only way I can explain it is if you ever washed your car and your brake pads slightly rust to the rotor and it finally breaks free and lunges forward. Does anyone know if the brakes hold during a complete stop? The same symptom happens when I use the 'AUTO H' feature but not sure what is used to hold. No rough shifts or anything after the initial "lurch." Any insight would be nice, just trying to figure out which parts I should try to replace first....Throwing money at this car is my only hobby

Sounds to me like you may have a sticky caliper. Get it up on jack stands and go through the same motions of stopping all 4 wheels and see if one sticks when you let off.

I'd suggest resetting the adaptives in the transmission using INPA or ISTA/D.

Had issue with mine, turned out to be funky solenoids in transmission preventing the torque converter lockup from fully disengaging. Replaced solendoids and resolved all the issues. Lots of kits out there now to do this. Recommend you pickup the ATSG manual if you tackle yourself. Not a bad job but you must be meticulous and get everything right when you bolt back in the valve body
