2011 X5M shakes when stopping/stopped
Its warranty actually expires next week and this morning while applying the brakes, the car started to shake. At the stoplight it continued shaking and now continually does it. It's got 46k miles. What could be wrong with it? There's no engine light on but I think the problem is either in the engine or transmission. Anyone have this problem?

Gremlins.
Seriously good timing on the warranty - I imagine if they can't squeeze you in due to the holidays they'll still honor it. Would be completely ridiculous if they didn't. Have them do a once over on it to see if anything else needs to be knocked out before it expires.

I was just debating if I should sell it in January and not have to spend money on the extended warranties. I do like the new generation X5M....
But seriously, do the manufacturers program these cars to give major problems once they pass 50k miles or their warranty expires? My cadillac needed a $3k engine service three months after its 4 year warranty expired. Before that, all it needed was oil changes. |

Looks like you might need to change the plugs and coils. Any black smoke coming out of tail pipe?

I've driven it around 50 miles since Thursday and it hasn't done it since. I scheduled to take it for service at 7:00 am tomorrow though so we'll see. I'll tell them to check the plugs and coils as someone mentioned.

When my injectors were going out it would shake when going slow and felt like it had a mild cam in it when stopped. It did this for 60 miles then the engine malfunction light cam on. Ended up being 3 injectors and all plugs.

The injector coils on two of the cylinders burned out. And the car didn't give me a service engine light because the system wasn't updated, lol. At least the problem was caught before its warranty expires which is on January 3.

How many miles were on your truck, when you had to replace coils and plugs? My SA recommends changing the plugs at 80K.

Did you get the extended warranty yet? I would highly recommend getting it, if you plan on keeping it after January.

Since it's an M vehicle, the extended warranty will cost more than standard cars. For the Gold Warranty which I got back in September was $4200. It is good till December 2017 100K, which ever comes first. Having a piece of mind is a huge thing!
BMW CPO Wrap Gold 7/100k CPO Wrap Gold coverage begins the day yourCPO protection ends, extending coverage up to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original vehicle in-service date (whichever comes first). |

Well, great news I guess. The dealer is going to replace all the fuel injectors and some other parts in the engine and suspension. Boy, glad this happened a week before the warranty expired.

Didn't replace coils just injectors and plugs. First time at 31k miles all injectors replaced and last time 39k miles for 3 of them.
