2400m this morning... Faster overall pace for the hour according to my watch... Felt like it.

-40C on the truck dash on my way to the pool this morning... First time I have seen it that cold... In reality it was about -32C but either way it was chilly.

1400 yds today, felt good.

I swam 7x200 maintaining 1:40 per 100 pace, with rest between 200s. This was the pace for the lifeguard test 2 weeks ago and I am keeping it as a goal. I am thinking of reducing the pace target to 1:35 or 1:30.

No news....is bad news. I haven't heard anything. The Chief of Ocean Rescue said we would hear back in a week. So either they haven't done that yet, or I didn't get the job.

Another participant truly did a better job than all of us. She was first place in the pool swim and all of the beach skills tests. This was her second time applying for the job (didn't get it the first time) so she knew what was required.

The rescue board skills test was hardest for me because I have zero surfboard experience, let alone a large and very buoyant rescue board. The surf was high and I struggled to get outside of the break. But I did manage and successfully completed all of the skills tests.

It was a fun process to apply, get invited to interview, prepare/train and then participate.

This swim felt really good.... All my times against the various distances are half what they were when I started in September. I dont feel like I am going to drown constantly either lol

1600yds, good swim.

8 x 200yds on the same pace I trained for the lifeguard job.

Slowed a bit because I was in a new to me pool. All lap swimming, no exercise classes or kiddie swims.

I shared a lane with a competitive swimmer. It was good for the quasi-competition but there was some contact between us and I hit the lane marker a few times with my hand/arm. I will learn the busy and less busy times at this pool and tailor my swim schedule accordingly.

1600 yds, good swim. I swam 8x200yds on a 1:40 target pace. I need to pick up the effort because my heart rate isn't getting too high - the slippery slope of training.

The body adjusts to the demand, and more effort is required to produce the same body response in terms of heart rate.

1800yds, good swim.

New-to-me pool. Most crowded I have swum, in a long time. Most of the time there were 3 swimmers per lane which is not my preference. I got my yards in and will reevaluate whether I use that pool, at my preferred swim time which is late morning.

Swimming stats on the Garmin weren't great because I was not able to maintain target pace because of the crowded lane. All good!

Just under 3k tonight... Not sure exactly because I just realized that my watch isn't counting kick laps which is a known issue.... Doesnt seem to be a solution to fix that other than marking laps which I dont want to be bothered with.

1800yds, good swim. Swam some 200s at a sub-1:40 per 100yd pace. 2 swimmers per lane today.

Which Garmin are you using? I recently got a Garmin 965 and it is a big step up in capability vs my previous Fitbit Versa 4.

I have an older Fenix 5X.... I am stuck between wanting to upgrade to a Forerunner 265, 965 or a Fenix 7X.

2250m plus 400m of kick this morning. Smaller group today, just myself and one other guy in my lane.

Good, but tough, swim tonight.

300m warmup switching each 75m then 8 x 25m

Main set was 6 x 50m then a 100 IM three times for 1200m total. The 50's were fly/back (2x25), back/breast, brrast/free.

Then 400m kick and a few laps of easy pull to finish.

Thanks! My butterfly is terrible but I am slowly improving... I can manage a lap now without drowning usually lol... When I started I could do a couple strokes and that was it. My kick isnt very strong and the coordination has been tough to figure out.

9 x 200 = 1800yds today. Good swim. Slower pace but it felt very smooth. I prefer pushing a harder workout when I have a lane to myself and don’t need to focus on staying in my half of the lane or avoiding hitting the lane marker!

9 x 200 yds = 1800 yds today. Felt great. Swam faster on average than prior workouts. I would like to improve swolf but it has been a challenge.

I am taking seconds off 200 times but swolf isn’t changing, so that means efficiency is suffering while speed improves. Solution - more time in the pool!

I just started swimming a month ago
I was diagnosed with two herniated discs in my lower back and it was pinching my sciatica nerve. Pain for almost a year.
I was stubborn and didn't listen to my pt. I started stretching (cobra) and swimming six weeks ago. Today I swam a pb 4,000 meters at 2:00/100 meters. I have been working weights(three times a week). glad to have found this thread. I was resisting the thought of surgery(/again) but was not being proactive in my recovery. I finally said to myself I need to do something to take away this debilitating pain, swimming and stretching was the ticket. I only wish I had done it sooner.
