X5M Parking Brake Issue
Hey Guys,
2012 X5M - typical yellow P warning on the dashboard. I'm able to release the brake via the pull in the rear hatch and drive the car, no issues there. I've tried the parking brake reset procedure - no change. Codes read 6DDB and 6DDC. Tried clearing the codes - no change. Strangely, my next step was disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and reconnecting. Voila, the parking brake was back on! This leads me to believe that either the function in the actuator is intermittent, or there's something electrical between the actual button module and actuator itself. The brake re-applying itself threw me a curveball...if it turned back on after battery reset it cant be the module can it? Anyone have any further ideas before I start randomly replacing things? The customer receives a check control message that the parking brake has failed. The parking brake cannot be released via the park brake button. In addition, the prompt tone rings several times, and the red indicator light of the parking brake lights up. When handling a customer complaint, perform the following steps to put the vehicle into sleep: - switch off the ignition without operating the service brakes - lock the vehicle from the outside via the radio key fob - put the vehicle into sleep. Wait five minutes. -Unlock the vehicle via the radio key - start the engine - release the parking brake by button. If the customer has operated the emergency unlocking device for the parking brake, resume the operation of the parking brake function according to the instructions in the owner's manual. If the customer has operated the emergency unlocking device of the parking brake, resume the operation of the parking brake function according to the instructions in the owner's manual. Then read the fault code storage record and compare whether the following fault code storage records are recorded: DXC_ 70 0x6de2 - 6de2 - EMF fault: button damaged, slsiii0x6ddb - 6ddb - EMF fault: unable to tighten (tightened) 0x6ddc - 6ddc - EMF function: unable to release and / or EMF_ 70 0x6019 - PER_ BUTTON_ APPLY0x6020 - PER_ BUTTON_ RELEASE If these fault codes are recorded, the fault memory is deleted and the function of the parking brake is checked by a test run to re evaluate the vehicle. If the function of the park brake is not limited, no further service is required. In this case, replacing parts and reprogramming will not help. If other fault codes are recorded or currently exist, use ISTA / D to perform further diagnosis and implement test module. |

Common issue. Once you have pulled up with the special tool to release the e brake. You need to trying holding the switch down. Push it several times. Maybe even pull it once or twice during the sequence. Keep repeating it. This is tricking the rebake actuator motor to get yellow light to come off. This is the final attempt before you need to replace the unit. |

Might be the case. What are FCPeuro and Pelican parts smoking? 1100 for an actuator? I'd rather just have the stupid light on and wheel chocks! |

It’s BMWs fault not there’s. Anyways I bought mine I’m in ebay works and looked new for $350. Make sure to tighten the brake shoes after install on both sides also so nothing clicks after replacement.

Very common failure on the E70's and there are a lot of diy's to replace the brake module. Be prepared for most of a day to complete the job. I've done the job myself with an e-bay replacement module. Make sure the new module includes the brake lines. You will have to lift the car, remove both rear wheels disassemble the brakes to get at the e-breaks, and take apart most of the covers in the hatch. Nothin super hard, just a lot to remove to complete the job.
E70's kill parking breaks, sun roof tilt function breaks, front tension struts, heater control valve, and lol, the fun begins. Oh and they seem to have occasional oil leaks too ;-) |

I have the same issue with the light, but mine has never been stuck on and needed to be released.
If I creep forward very slowly and apply the parking brake it will come on for 10 seconds, is this likely to need replacing also or could it be a communication issue? |

Buy one from eBay. It’s a lot cheaper. Very common e70 failure.

I stand corrected. TIS references reprogramming. I'll edit my response in the other thread.
You can do this via ISTA or possibly even INPA. Do you have either of those programs? |
