BMW X5 Twin Turbo Engine spotted?
These are the first engine shots of that mysterious BMW X5
prototype which started all those X5M rumors. Although the rather roughly finished engine bay doesn't give away the cylinder count and the displacement, it looks to us that this prototype is twin- turbocharged. The dual air-intake treatment looks similar to the ducting on BMW's 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine. Given all of this X5 prototype's high-octane modifications, we're assuming this is a larger displacement engine, perhaps even a twin-turbo V8. Regardless of the specifics, we're just glad to finally see a little deeper inside this beefy X5 prototype to get a glimpse at the heart of the beast. It still doesn't fully confirm whether or not this X5 will be M-badged, but our gut tells us that it won't. We're leaning toward other reports that say this version will slot in where the X5 4.8is used to be--plenty bad-ass, but not worthy of the hallowed M badge, if for no other reason than it's SUV packaging creates to many compromises to live up to the M heritage. |

Dunno if I'm mistaken or this has been mentioned before but when the previous X5 was launched in 4.8is guise, didnt the M division say that they will assist in the design and modification of the car but building an M model of the X5 is against what the M division stands for? Something like they aim and developing road going sports cars and dont want to dilute the M blood line like Merc did with building an AMG M Class? I could be wrong but think I read that somewhere...

I hope that is true. AMG used to mean something back in the day (although it still wasnt a ground up car like the M) but it had some exclusivity to it. Now you can buy anything with an AMG label on it, even things that arent AMG. I like that the M is still more true to its orgins, ok so its not like the E30 M anymore but its still based in a philosphy unlike AMG is now.

i think bmw is going to do somthing similar to what they did with the m3 sedan. this x5 is not going to be a M car but it will have the x6's ttV8 and it will have front end stying of the x6 just like the m3 sedan has the coupes styling

So funny you said that i was thinking the same!!!!! I put $5.07 a gallon today in my bro's mini and i felt the pain... Can't imagine how much gas this thing will consume; if an M3/M5/M6 average 10-12 mpg this will be like 2mpg?????????????

first of all, the M's don't average 10-12 mpg unless you beat the crap out of them and no car under 3 tons does an average of 2 mpg.

$5 a gallon
You guys don't know your born. We are paying that for a litre in the UK V6's and V8's over 3.0 are dead here with fuel at that price plus $500 a year for road tax. Diesels rule due to the increased mpg but our robbing bastards of a government and fuel companies are now charging more for this than petrol. |

thats what i have been telling my family lol. first of all the gallon is like 4 liters and PLUS the currency of the $ is falling down. if the dollar goes down + we pay for gallons not liters, i don't see the reason to complain. i mean it wold be GREAT if the price was 99 Cents like in 2000, but hey i got a newsflash for you guys ITS NOT |
