Comparing prices: Mustang GT, Supra, and M2C

It's hard to believe how expensive a Mustang GT is today. The M2C is only $10K more. That's only $2.5K per year with 48 months plan. With PP2, the Mustang would cost even more.

True.

But you can spend that extra 10k and do a Whipple stage 1, still under factory warranty by Ford, and have 800hp. I would never get a mustang, but I can see the appeal.

Yeah, that mustang at 50k is a little too close to the price of a Vette. Too close for me.

Consider in 2018 the Mustang GT had more HP than the Corvette.

I'd go base GT
PP2 (Magneride, 305 Pilot Cup 2 at each corner, etc)

Recaros

That puts you $48,360. And since Ford is Ford, you'll likely be able to drive off the lot around $44k.

It's hard to believe, but the rawness of the V8 surpasses the turbo'd cars. It seems to be a lot less delicate as well. I have only driven the Supra (and not on track) but based on what I'm seeing at local track days I'd want a Mustang. A lot of bank for buck. (Even though the M2 is on my wishlist).

And you can drive off the lot with a 2019 Camaro 1SS LE, new, for under $40k. That' what they are being advertised at, so you could probably get another $1-2k off.

An SS 1LE for $37-38k? That comes with Recaros, oil/trans/diff coolers, adjustable top hats to add more camber for track days, EDiff, etc.

That's an insane amount of car for the money.

I test drove one a couple years ago. They are bonkers. If I was ready to buy a car right now, I would highly consider jumping on one. The back seat is weak and the trunk is small, but damn if they aren't fast and a hell of a track machine.

I am eyeing a 911 but really the Mustang is compelling.

The Coyote engine is MIGHTY, so much power, so visceral, sounds fantastic and likes a few revs. I'd go PP1, active valve exhaust and Magna ride and TBH it's got way more theatre than the supra or M2C.

Not cheap here, $60K for a vert with taxes and that's a super special end of year sale for an in-stock example, it's be $65K+ otherwise. But that gets you a near base 997.1 911 soooooooo food for thought.

True - but now you are comparing a new modern car to a Porsche that is seriously old tech, a body style that is 2 generations old, and a car that is more than a decade old with serious engine failure issues (IMS was still a major concern in the 997.1 platform).

Top all of this off with the fact that the driving style is night and day. I've driven a 997.1 S many times and really flogged them too. The lack of torque is a serious problem with that car. It just doesn't "feel" fast. My MINI feels so much faster than the 997 going up onramps and from stop light to stop light, it's just insane.

The 997 is a wonderful car - but the driving style is so vastly different when compared to either a Mustang or the BMW M2, that it's hard for me to understand why that would be a hard choice.

Personally - I can't stand the look or the interior of a Mustang, so that's a non-starter for me. I love the look and interior of the Camaro, but you can't see shit out of the thing and it feels massive, even though it is much smaller than it used to be.

I'd likely buy a 981 Cayman before I bought a 997 Carrera. Just my 2c.

That's kinda my point though. TBH at $65k here you can get into a 997.2 Carerra S but lightly optioned. i don't mind flogging it as it means revs.

But a brand spankers new Mustang is compelling. I love the front end but the rear is to big on it IMHO.

Agreed - the Mustang front end looks great. The back end looks too much like the previous generations - so it makes it look very dated.

The problem with the Mustang is sitting in it. The leather feels like 1970's vinyl, the plastic is bargain basement quality, the steering wheel feels the same as a 2004 Ford Explorer - and so on, so forth.

That interior is absolute horrific. If they could rectify that - it would be a major coup and the car would sell even more than it does now.

Agreed. The inside of the Focus RS was just something I couldn't get past. Lots of things to like about it, but the place you spend 99% of your time should at least be passable.

I've driven the GT350 (a used one at CarMax so I could flog it guilt free) and the inside is just too low rent. It might suffice for a base four cylinder but it's way too cheap for the V8 models.

What kind of lease deals are available on a new Mustang up there? If reasonable, you could go the lease route and buy the car out afterwards if you love it, or turn it back in and move on to a used 911 or whatever your heart desires at that point in time.

There's just so many great options in that price range when considering new and used. If it were me, I'd probably be looking between the Mustang GT PP2, Mustang Bullit, Camaro SS 1LE, C7 Grand Sport, M2C, and even a MX-5 Club model.

Haha, us? Run Silent is the Fezza driver. I've got a GTI. I have stood next to a few Ferrari's though.

I agree regarding the Boxster and agree regarding the 987 Cayman. I think the new Cayman's look fantastic. I'd love to drive one of the new 786 models with the turbo - I bet that thing is intoxicating - and it better be, considering it is pretty easy to option a Cayman up to a hundred grand these days - which is way too much.

Agreed - although (and perhaps it's just perception) - I personally thought that the Focus interior is actually NICER than the Mustang. I think they would do well to at least make the Mustang interior match the level of quality of a base level economy car, lol.

Throw in is Subaru makes a new BRZ or STi for the 2021 MY. Maybe a 12-16 Cayman S, and that's basically what I'll be shopping next year when its time to get something more fun again.

I agree with all of this. Also, the latest 5.0 Coyote has issues with rod bearings. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. The GT350 motors aren't exactly reliable either. A power modded version of either of these motors? F that.

If Ford could address the interior, work out the kinks with their V8s, and make the car smaller on the outside, I'd be interested.

I haven't heard of rod bearing issues with I'm guessing you're talking about the Gen III Coyote?

The only real bad thing I recall hearing/reading about the Voodoo is ridiculous oil consumption.
