I'm just trying to help others sort out this information.
I had the wheel and module installed on my X5M. The wiring was done correctly. The M button did NOT active M mode. End of story. Here is an email chain from Custom Retrofit Garage: Quote:
As for what I gather is the other manufacturer, Car Systems, their distributor wasn't even organized to sell me an actual module. But, they did respond to my email as well: Quote:
I left the manufacture's I worked with emails here too if anyone wants them. Last edited by pjfox23; 02-01-2019 at 05:53 PM.. |

And thanks for sharing. I worked with the car systems team from Europe, their is a US based team but I quickly found out they didn't know their stuff yet as they were all new. I do know however that the module is programmable. It be great if they had an app that you could custom make and update the module at will like idatalink systems for stereo installations. Maybe in time. |

Hello to everyone. I retrofitted F10 steering to BMW E70 using Carsystems adapter. The issue I have is that LEDs on the steering wheel buttons are blinking. Everything works fine but this is very annoying. Support cannot help me, they say that I have mistake in wiring, which I can accept but cannot find issue. They say that mistake must be in pin 4 of the adapter, KL58. I do not thing I connected something wrong there, connection is very simple and without it nothing works.
I cut original grey/red wire and connect part that goes into X1880 connector to red wires (2 of them are connected together) and part that goes to the car is connected to black/white wire. Can the cause of issue be additional aftermarket LEDs that are connected to the car as ambient light? Did anyone experienced similar issue? |

Looks good but first time through everything worked fine. The only blinking I can across was to set function to the buttons. Like switching the plus and minus for volume up and down to the scroll wheel.
Otherwise it worked as it should have. |

Hey, if i were to purchase that exact steering wheel, would it physically fit into my car (bmw x5 e70, same as yours)? Or did you make any modifications to it or add any parts to it to make it fit? I understand that the buttons and controls need to be modified but all i am currently focussed on is fitting it to the car. Thanks

I managed to fit the wheel and change the f10 wiring harness to fit the e70 clock spring.
Horn doesn’t work though , I probably need to find a way to wire the pink horn wire and brown earth wire. How do I get the shifters to work though? I heard I need to change the resistance of some cables, is that right? |

Haven’t read this thread in a while, doesn’t it require $xxxx NBT EVO to get the M button to work? Or has this been solved?

GRRRRR
Mdrive key additional function It is possible to assign Mdrive key an additional function (key “8” on front panel of HU). This option available only when installing NBT HU with CarSystems Exx NBT Retrofit Adapter. It can be switched with jumper switch. So i will see if i can find the wires (that are from the button) and see if I can find or make my own switch. Once I pull the OEM steering wheel, i can pin out the wires from the switches to see which ones CLOSE for the M button or not.. I asked car systems for another options, I am not doing a NBT retro, no ned, doing the android upgrade method anyway. |

One of the reasons I stopped wanting to do this mod and got the E70 performance steering wheel was the impossibility of the M button working. I use that function 50% of the time so I know it'll annoy the crap out of me reaching for it elsewhere etc.

Car Systems told me to use the M5 F10 wheel, which has the M1 and M2 button, i am working with them to see if we can make M1 into a M button for the E70, they speak broken English so we'lll see.

M1 button on M5 F10 steering wheel will work the same as M on E70 M5 steering wheel. - this is per Car Systems..
will report back once i am done with the install. I just completed a F02 with a F10 and it was a nightmare, 12 part numbers for the clockspring for these years (same as F10) and one would work, another would not, and both are supposed to be compatible, same with switches, same part, some would, some would not (i bought a few sets because of the hassle went through) |

Hey everyone trust you all doing well, someone is selling this very cheap, I'm tempted to buy it and recover it to make it new. I have a regular M-Sport X5 30D: My Question is, if I'm not interested to get the extra buttons to work along with Pedal Shifters, will this just work plug & play? I read something about drilling it for indicators to work, please clarify!
Thanx in advance |
