coding radio to start carplay automatically?
hey guys I will receive my unichip carplay box (with wireless carplay) today and try to put it in my car this friday.
I thought about the need to press the "menu" or "8" button every time I start the engine and think its not that comfortable. So do you guys think it could be possible to code my car that it automatically "presses" the button every time the engine starts? Like this you would start your engine and be right in carplay after a couple seconds. Or cant you code the navigation system or the radio? Seems a tiny script would do the job - but I have 0 experience with coding cars. |

Hi, is anyone else having issues where the menu button is non-responsive nd you can't access CarPlay nor do anything with the menu button in the main BMW screen?

Nope, nothing like that. Maybe check that the controller's connection is secure? The idrive controller/knob unit.

OK, I think I understand.
I can listen to the native radio or XM while using CarPlay. My questions: Can I be listening to the radio and then use CarPlay to answer the phone? I read earlier in the thread that you can get no sound from CarPlay if you want to also listen to the native radio. While listening to the native radio, can I invoke Siri from the steering wheel and tell Siri to dial a call? I don’t care if the call goes through the native Bluetooth or through the unichip module. Thanks. 😀 |

Sorry if I seem obtuse. I am having a little trouble imagining the scenario. |

Truthfully, I'm not sure. I can just go outside during lunch today and find out for you if you'd like. I'l have a coworker call me and see what happens. I THINK because the carplay is hooked up, the phone call will go through carplay, but you wouldn't hear it, because the carplay is outputting into an input that you don't have selected. I'll update in a few hours after testing.

Cheers for the reply Simmah,
How are you finding the box by the way? And, do you have the link where you bought them from? Might be willing to buy it for full price if it’s good enough. |

The box is from Unichip-Tec. Here are links for the CCC & CIC compatible boxes. If you told me someone was selling one on Amazon, I wouldn't be shocked. CCC: http://www.unichip-tec.com/h-pd-176.html#_pp=109_880 CIC: http://www.unichip-tec.com/h-pd-16.html#_pp=109_880 |
