i was @ 56k miles on the original fronts so ended up replacing front rotors with the F85 rotors and used E70 x5m pads.
Still have about 11k left on the rears so i'll be doing those next. I also had them measure the rotor thickness and it was right at the minimum 34mm . I looked around and found south atlanta bmw to have the cheapest price on rotors.

Time for some new brakes and I would like to go with these new rotors for my X6M. For you guys that have swapped these from the older rotors how are they holding up against corrosion and pitting? I ask because I was over at my local dealer and looked at a couple 2017 MY on the lot and the rotors were a mess. The rotor hats/hubs looked all corroded and rusted. If I am going to fork out this kind of dough I don't want these to corrode and look like crap in a year. Thanks for your feedback.

The discs on my F85 rotors have rusted and the hats are starting to pitt. I haven't used the X5 much these last 4-5 months and its been sat, little open to the elements but it's little disheartening to see corrosion on the hats.

Thanks for they reply. I was told by my local shop that BMW changed their alloy and it's a real problem. Many customers are complaining about rusted rotors and they advised me to stay away from the F85 rotors and look for a quality aftermarket solution. Problem is there is not many aftermarket choices that I have have found. May have to just go with the original factory rotors.

Agree, they certainly perform well but the corrosion is off putting. I'm sure I can make them look like new again but that's beside the point... The original hats are less complicated and do not create much of problem to maintain. No denying the F85 cross drills though

I ordered some EBC Rotors front and rear. Back ordered until May. GD series black zinc coated slotted and dimpled. I will pair with Carbotech pads being made now.

I did see a used X5M in the lot and it's rotors looked fine just normal aluminum oxidation so who knows. One idea is to have the rotor hats clear powder coated and that way you keep the elements off of them, the brake dust is acidic so it will affect the aluminum over time. Same reason if you don't clean your rims the brake dust will damage your wheel finish. |

That's my thought. I think when I get mine I'll take it over to the shop that does coatings by me and have the hats coated with high temp clear.

I have these on my '13X5M and no issues whatsoever. If I had a complaint, it's does seem that when they are parked wet overnight (evening car wash or rain) there is some squeal backing out of the garage - rust in the holes I suppose. But once I travel forward the noise is gone, also mine is a daily driver so there is little chance of rust build up. The hats are aluminum and do not rust.
I installed them with the pads specific for a '13X5M. |

I'm getting close on my pads/rotors. Will probably move towards this solution as well.
Did anyone pair the F85 rotors with a lower dust aftermarket pad? The brake dust on these beasts is unbearable

I haven't done the F85 rotors yet since I still had another brake change on mine, but I did throw some stoptech ceramic/cf pads on. They have very little dust and by the time you start to notice the dust your car should have already been washed. I'm not too happy with the braking though. They have to warm up to bite like the original pads...just a few stops though, not super terrible.
Next time I'll do the F85 rotors and a different pad composition, does hawk make pads for this truck? I'm a fan of stoptech so I'll look there first. |
