X5M Over 100k Miles?
Hey guys,
Long time BMW owner, currently have a 2015 M3 and a 2007 X3. The X3 serves as my winter duty car. After driving my M3 all summer, getting back into the X3 just feels numb. I've been thinking of picking up an X5M to replace it. I realize lots of factors play a role in reliability, but i found a 2011 X5M with over 100k on it for a decent price, am i crazy for even considering this? According to carfax, etc. it appears to have been well maintained and is being sold by a BMW dealer What should I look out for? PS car is fully loaded, leather dash, mutli contour and active seating pkg, etc.

If you ever decide you like the X6M, I know someone who turns in well maintained vehicles at lease end with less than 36,000 miles after 3 years I'm up in Dec '18 |

What is the price? I think most people would say a vehicle over 100k that you buy is a project car for someone ready to replace and upgrade the suspension, cooling system, some drive system parts, and maybe the turbos. Or the car could be in great shape and just buy cheap and ride it till it needs maintenance.

I have a 2010 X5M with ~95k miles on it (just under 150k KM's). I have the full maintenance history but I bought it for a very reasonable price and went into it knowing that I would have to be proactive on regular maintenance and expect some bigger stuff along the way (cooling system, some suspension, etc.) If your plan is to service it, at that mileage, at your local dealership, run, because you will end up poor. If you have a good indy and you can chop that in half, if not more, then go for it if the price is right. |

So i negged the one with over 100k. Found a 2010 with 53k. It looks like the plugs have been done, its unclear if the fuel injectors have or not. Any long term problems i should really be worried about around that mark? often a car with thsoe miles is when the problems start. They want $31k for the car

Things to check: Injectors, ignition coils, excessive suspension/ wheel bearing play, brake rotors. These are all frankly wear and tear items but can be expensive and hence better to check if the previous owners have done them already. Otherwise, the truck had been pretty reliable. |
