Considering 2013 X5///M
I love the X5///M and always wanted one; now I'm just trying to convince myself it's practical to finally buy. Regardless, I know myself and whether or not it's practical I will buy one.
My question is whether I should wait for the new 2014 model update from the current platform or go with a 2013 sitting on the lot as we speak? I'd hate to buy one only to see a bigger, better, faster model immediately after. Thoughts? Opinions? |

BMW has 1000s of people to ensure this happens every year. So you wont win there. Just go get it.

Buy one, mod it, the nothing will be faster for a while ;-)
But seriously aren't the new ones coming late 14 early 15? Long wait

Drive one and there will be no waiting until 2014. That's what happened to me.

Not sure I follow the question of whether it's practical....I think it is perhaps the best suv on the mkt and very practical....great performance, great brakes, good room in the back, great in snow if you get winter tires, seats five comfortably....to me these are things that make it practical. other SUVs may be bigger or smaller and cost less ( not many cost more) but that doesn't go to whether this baby is practical. No car seats five as well and no car has the clearance of an suv...again, this is how I would define practical.

If the new one comes out in 2014 (and it looks like it will), I'm betting the M won't be out in the first year. Plus, I would personally give them a year or two to get the bugs out. So pick up the 2013 and enjoy for a couple of years, THEN get the new one

I went through the same trauma - and just picked mine up also.
It's a huge amount of fun to drive, practical, gas mileage isn't totally horrible, and the insurance isn't awful either. The reality is that it's not *that* much more fun than the X6 50i that it replaced, as the roads and traffic in Seattle are so dire. However, it's so much more fun on the windy roads when you can hit the "M" button... what the hell, do it - you'll be glad you did |

Thanks for all the encouragement guys; you all definitely think like me! Ok, I'm already mentally sold on it; now I just need to liquidate a couple of my current toys: 2008 Chevy Trailblazer SS and 2011 Harley Dyna Street Bob.
Now my next question, and yes, I know it's all a matter of personal preference but I need to hear some opinions just for peace of mind. My wife and I already have our 2012 535i in Alpine white which we absolutely love. But should I stick with the same color as the X5M that's on the lot right now (Alpine white) or seek a darker color? I've always loved that carbon black metallic or other black colors; but I also love the Alpine white. I'm torn on this one and would like some feedback. Would you guys get bored with two cars of the same color? Thanks! |

I've always like a car in a dark color. I went with Carbon Black Metallic and love it. I got the regular tags for it from the BMV yesterday and the lady asked me what color was it. She at first thought it was blue then black.
Nice color on the X5M. |

I think there's a couple of factors at play here.
1. If you love the color, you should obviously consider it again. If you were ordering your "dream car" (and the X5M is a pretty spendy car), what color would you get? 2. What about the interior and options of the car that's "on the lot" - is that what you'd get? 3. Factor in the "year end pricing" you'll likely get on the lot version. Is that worth the compromise (if there is one?) The Monte Carlo blue / silverstone ii car I just got was the *exact* spec I'd have ordered a custom car in (color and everything) save the pointless rear entertainment system. I also got a reasonable deal as the dealer was trying to close out the year, and had had this on their lot for a while. For me, it's the interior that makes or breaks the car - it's what you spend most time looking at. Personally I think the lighter colors are more "luxurious" feeling, but they're a nightmare to keep clean.... the trims on the X5M are (mostly) unique to it, so that's also a factor of you want to feel "different". -Alistair |
