SPORT MODE
What does really the Sport Button do? When I push it I can feel the car shake a fraction of a sec, but what exactly happens? I imagine the suspension becomes stiffer, gas pedal response might be better, although I don't see why it wouldn't be fast even with normal mode on. But what else?
I know this could be a really stupid question, but as a 10 day new owner of 4.8 xDrive with all possible packages, I'm curious to know what to expect and do I really have. Thanks all! |

A 4.8 will all possible packages? Can I be in your Will?
Basically, it just stiffens the suspension - that's all. If you want acceleration and shifting to be more responsive also, pull the transmission selector toward you into "sport mode". You'll notice the difference.

Im pretty sure sport button increases your accelerator pedal sensitivity too. I have a very similar car too. Love it.

Well I know when u change the gear shift to DS there's a huge difference in throttle/rpm response, but the SPORT button doesn't seem to make a big difference.

The SPORT button is only for the suspension if you have adaptive drive. (and you only have the SPORT button when u have the adaptive drive option). It does nothing to the engine or gearbox.
Pushing the gear lever to the LEFT puts it in sports mode - and THIS is for the gearbox - drops the gear 1 or 2 down, and keeps it at the best possible gear. It may also sharpen throttle response and sharper steering (if you have adaptive steering), but i am not sure of this. ronald |

I wonder if Dinan or other upgrades can add more adjustments to the sport mode?

I played around some today. I felt no change in throttle response, but I did feel a slightly tighter steering. That could be from the firmed up suspension but there was a slight difference.

I have the same question for the x5m as well. I noticed the gear difference and performance difference when the car is put into s mode. However M mode, i dont really feel much difference...

When moving the shifter to the left, that is what changes transmission shift points and throttle response.
The "Sport" button right near the shift lever is what firms up the suspension. |

It only firms up the suspension on the non M X5/X6. Even then it is "barely" noticeable. No change in steering or throttle or shifts.
Other BMW models do various things , but not this one. (And I'm not sure about the X5M/X6M)

Are you sure that you programmed your M button? |

Correct. It increases the damping stiffness and increases the swaybar resistance. I think it's very noticeable on mine.
