BMW Wheel/Tire Protection Policy..Is it Worth It!
I purchased the BMW wheel/tire policy because we will be driving back and forth to South Florida at least twice per year. The policy is 5 years with a modest deductible and the cost averages about $200/year. Unused portions are refundable to the original owner. I have the 18" run flats which are between $400-$500/ea.
At the time I thought this was a good deal for my situation but second guessing myself. Anyone purchase this option at delivery? |

I purchased the same policy for $1800/5 years, at delivery. I'm assuming the cost was higher because I live in the NYC area and have 20" rims with runflats. I decided that it wasn't worth it for me because I was seeing used rims online and in these forums for reasonable prices and plan on switching to non-RFT's when my Duelers wear out in about 20k miles (what!?).
I cancelled within 30 days and am entitled to a 100% refund. $200/year is better than my $400/year. You're basically paying for 'peace of mind' and the convenience of pre-paid replacements if/when you get a flat/damaged rim. Some people have mentioned that I could, umm, drive over a nail "on accident' and get a tire replaced every year. Or that I could "accidentally" drive over a curb and get a new rim and tire. Seems like I'd be risking damage to my suspension...as well as being unethical. |

Can you tell me the process of cancelling the policy to receive your refund? I'm thinking about cancelling mine after 2 yrs. Thanks

the tire and rim warranty does not cover curb damage, a rim only will be replaced if it causes the tire to lose air. Also if u get a nail or screw in the tire there has to be enough depth left to justify a replacement tire. if the tire is bald and u get a puncture , no replacement tire . I never get the insurance, i take the gamble
