Baby Seat
Does anyone in here use a baby seat in the back of their 1er?
If so, is it difficult getting the child in and out? I take care of my niece sometimes and will probably need to pick one up soon and just wondering if it's a pain in the butt because it's a coupe or not. Thanks! |

basically the requirement is that you will be able to sit 2 people in the front w/ the seat in the back if one of you is shorter than 5'9-10ish... (since that's what happens when i try to fit people in the back of mine lol) and you'll have to climb into the back to strap the child seat down... TLDR: it looks like a huge a pain in the ass. |

As long as it's not rear facing it shouldnt be an issue. I have a 2 year old and 5 year old, and they love riding in my car (2013 135i coupe). My 5 year old always asks to hit the "fast" button (turning of the DCS). Sure, it's a bit more challenging to get them strapped in compared to our other car (a 2012 odyssey), but for the 1-2 times a month they ride in my car it's not a concern. I stick the 5 year old behind the passenges side, and he sits in a high-back booster, and the 2 year old sits behind me in a normal car seat.

It's a pita but for the amount of times you'll do it, really not bad. Move front seat all the way forward and you'll probably need to put the baby seat's handle 3/4 of the way down. We've been doing it on a daily basis. Plus that stage doesn't last all that long before they're in a booster seat.

I used a rear-facing Combi Coccoro convertible car seat for my baby. It's definitely possible as long as you get a smaller carseat that's compact enough to fit back there. It also depends on how flexible you are to be able to get a baby in and out of the car seat. Yeah it's a pain in the ass but it's worth it IMO.

I have a two year old that rides in my car from time to time. I used Graco forward facing car seat. In our mini van he still rides rear facing but I just could not fatham trying to strap him into a rear facing in that tight of a space so I went with forward facing for my 135. And best rated rear facing car seats are huge.
No issue getting in and out. He pretty much climbs in there on his own. |

i have both rear and forward facing seats in my car. I need to move the front passenger seat forwatd a bit to fit rear facing seat. It's not totally comfortable, but works.

Awesome - Thanks for the replies! This is also good information to have when I try and sell my significant other on why I won't be selling the 135i down the future...this car puts a smile on my face every time I get in it and start it up lol

I currently have a baby on the way and decided to try the infant carrier and base to see what it's gonna be like. We got the Chicco KeyFit30 becuase it appeared to be more compact than others we saw. It's a bit tight getting in and out, but for me it's not going to be enough of a PITA for me to consider getting rid of my 1er. My wife is short so she would be able to sit in the front for short rides, long ride might get uncomfortable as the seat is straight up basically and all the way up front. It works for us though as our family car will be my wife's Tiguan, just needed a base in the 1er for when picking up the baby from grandma and grandpa's. Hope that helps

My 3 year old fits fine in the back. Not hard getting him in and out, although it is easier since he can climb in and out on his own. And the seat can actually be pretty far back because of the depression in the back of the front seat. I just wish the electric seats moved faster.

I have the Chicco Key fit too. I don't find it's that big of a PITA to get in and out. As long as you can open the door fairly wide, its not too big of an issue. My kid also isn't a fat ass (yet) so he's pretty easy to get in and out.
