X6M / X5M March 2011 Production Changes

Beginning with March production, the following changes take place for X5 M and X6M:

X5M and X6M each become 2012 models
Each receives as standard equipment iPod/USB Adapter (6FL)
X5M receives power tailgate as standard equipment
Each receives BMW Apps (6NR) as an option with April production

The BMW Apps (6NR) is described as:

Coming as the next advancement in BMW's ConnectedDrive Strategy, BMW Apps will provide new, unique ways of connecting driver, vehicle, and iPhone. Please be advised that adding option 6NR to any vehicle will automatically add Smartphone Integration (6NF) without an additional charge. 6NF will no longer be available as a standalone option. At the time of launch, BMW Apps will offer three functional areas (Apps, Plugin, and Video Playback).

Apps will consist of the BMW Connected App and BMW Certified 3rd Party Apps. The BMW Connected App is a free package available for download at Apple's App Store and currently includes Web Radio, Facebook and Twitter. Announcements for BMW Certified 3rd Party Apps will be forthcoming.
Plugin allows the user to take advantage of Apple iTunes features (such s Genius, album art, compiling playlists, etc.) that were previously unavailable. In essence, this function brings the look and feel of Apple's iPod interface to the iDrive display (requires snap in adapter)
Video Playback enables the user to view any video playback from their iPhone via the iDrive display when the vehicle is stationary (requires snap in adapter).

BMW Apps will be available on all BMW vehicles as of March, except for X3, X5, and X6 models, where the availability will begin as of April. iPhone models supported include 3G, 3GS or 4 enabled with the "BMW Connected" app available free of charge at Apple's App Store.

What!?!?! No Visual Facelift for 2012 x6?! Doesn't make sense, x6 is due for an LCI update to get a slightly updated front and tube LED rear tails like x5 LCI...

i hope the 'software update' option in the idrive will allow me to upgrade

Anyone know if this april build information is correct. My local dealer is telling me he can have a 2012 in 30 days.

I ordered my X5 M in January, they initially got me a week 9 production that got bumped to week 11. I just spoke with my dealer, these changes will take place as of April 1. I miss these changes by 1 week...BS

I thought there were no more 2011 X5M's being produced, only 2011 X5 deisels until the 2012 run starts in april.

I ordered mine on January 5th, I hope there is some kind of glitch and they consider mine a 2012. I'd love to save the $$$ I spent on the iPod/USB and the Power tailgate. Plus, I'm losing value because it is an '11 not a '12. Not that I plan on trading/selling it anytime soon.

You won't save any money on the power tailgate and ipod/usb. The MSRP jumped 700 for '12 to compensate

no visual facelift for 2012 shouldn't be surprising. they can't just keep making unnecessary changes just because a new edition is coming up.

Only minor changes will take place for the 2012 BMW X5M. New standard equipment includes a power tailgate and a USB port, a new BMW app for iPhones also debuts.

I know this post is pretty old. I might have to order another X5M since mine was stolen after 9 days. Someone had BLACK FRIDAY on my truck, fother muckers! I was thinking since March is a time frame for model year change, would it be 2013 if I had mine built on or after March? I'm planning on picking it up by March, might as well wait if it's going to be 2013!
