You got me to thinking so I looked in my owners manual. "in Interior- The fuses are located in the front passenger footwell on the underside of the instrument panel"

picture shows three screws to undo.
hope that helps

nope , very good question.
surely BMW doesn't expect us to make an appointment (hassle at any dealer) just to have the fuse replaced.

Let's face it this way, this 3rd world countries like Costa Rica, with just 4 million people are usually expensive in terms of cost for imported items, we pay high import duties almost for any product we import, for example I paid $100,000 US dollars for my 30d X6 with just a couple of extras like sport seats and adaptive lights, no rear camera, no special stereo system, no NAV, 19" wheels, no bluetooth or iPod interface, any car imported must pay 52% in import duties over CIF price ( Cost Insurance Freight) thats the cost of the car at the port of arrival.
Now, I know there are cheaper options in the US market for this specific bulb, but if I had to import , plus shipping, plus duties, it will end higher of what I paid.......
Anyhow it was a rip after all......
