Rimac Concept One Supercar vs. P100D and Roadster
Just learned about this new Croatian supercar after watching the 1st episode of the new season of Grand Tour. Apparently Richard Hammond crashed the million dollar supercar, completely totaled it though he survived. There were only a few of these cars made so now they are even more rare, though of course more importantly no one was seriously hurt. Just curious as to how the insurance works for something like this as the car is virtually irreplaceable though I guess they could built another one. This car is pretty impressive but a $150K P100D is still faster to 60, though maybe not as fast around a track though we don't have any comparison videos to see. Also, the new $200K roadster will be faster even the P100D by a wide margin. Likely the Rimac car will be improved by the time the roadster comes out in 2020 so we will see who holds the crown. Thoughts?

The Tesla is the P90D so it's slower. The P100D with ludicrous plus mode does 0-60 in 2.4 so will beat it off the line and for a ways after that. The new roadster is in another league altogether.

Well, they are hiring right now...
Also I was stopped at the red light next to a red Tesla S earlier today and the misalignment between the front and rear door chrome trim (or perhaps it were the doors themselves?) was at least 1/2 inch. Even my wife, who is not a "car person" at all but has an excellent eye for quality was shocked when I told her this was a $100k+ product. Last time I saw crap like this was on soviet-made automobiles assembled by drunken slaves. I would honestly hesitate to drive any Tesla over 100mph, let alone double that. Just sayin... The Croatian supercar looked cool until Richard crashed it and then it burns for five days
I'm not sure of the Tesla could have gone full throttle up a hill that long without overheating. Also, the Tesla roadster looks cool but the numbers just don't add up. Maybe by 2020 they will but right now they don't. |

The demo unit looked like it was doing the advertised speed right now and it was repeated over and over again. These EVs are being continually improved at a rate that I'd leaving ICE in the dust. Also, the Rimac is a two door supercar vs a 4 door sedan and arguably matches the 0-60 of the model S but can't touch the roadster. Would be interested to see a head to head with the prototype. Keep in mind the quarter mile is 8.9 seconds so those are some unreal numbers for a production EV and the volume of P100d is greater than the Rimac and the price is a fraction of the Rimac for similar performance and seating for 8

2020 HA! That’s just funny right there. Will the roadster go to production or to Mars first? That’s the bet.

The numbers are all really great, but techs still not there. Overheating and range continue to be a problem.
I actually really liked the Rimac for a while until I saw Hammond drive one on the recent episode of the GT. More I looked at it I realized it looks like a sperm. Then the 5d cell fire just totally wiped it from my interest.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. The reason it burned for so many days as they said in the episode was because each cell burned and sequentially caught the next one on fire. An ICE wouldn't burn like that.
