08 Corvette...regular exhaust vs. sport valve one??
Just wondering, Chevy states the $1200 exh. option is good for 6 hp and 4 lbs of torque.
How? I thought I read somewhere the regular exhaust is a 3" exhaust while the $1200 option one is a 2.5" with butterfly valves like our 335i. What exactly are the differences between the two exhausts that make the one get 6 hp and 4 lbs of torque more. Clearly it must have a bit better breathing, but if it is in fact a smaller diameter unit, how is that? And if it's the same diameter, does it have different plumbing or different mufflers that allow for the better flow? At $1200 it seems to me an aftermarket exhaust would be a better option on the car anyway, and probably yield much more than the measly 6 hp and 4 lbs feet of torque the option exhaust does. Thoughts? |

I've got an 07. I believe the exhaust size is 2.5" in diameter regardless if you get the stock or the "performance" option on the C6. The Z06 comes with the 3" diameter exhaust.
The performance option is designed and functions the same way on the C6 as it does on the Z06 (the vacuum-actuated outlet valves), it's just a 1/2" smaller. It supposedly reduces back-pressure by 80% at high speeds. It sounds really cool at WOT but personally if I was getting an 08, I'd rather just get the stock exhaust and throw the $1200 toward headers, x-pipe, replacing the remaining exhaust and picking up way more than 6HP in the process. Which is exactly what I did with mine. But for people who aren't going to mod the car, namely alot of the "older" generation of Vette owners, it's a nice addition to the car and definitely improves the sound. |
