Unknown paint defect

If anyone could help me identify this I'd be very grateful. I got the car two weeks ago and these are the only two defects on the entire cae .I tried a clay bar but to no avail, it just left it smoooooth. It looks like some half wit had some touch up practice on the car. Its only visible in certain light but it irks the Hell out of me. My body shop quoted me $60 for each side. My question is whether or not it needs that or an experienced detailer. I'm just curious as to why it's on the same spot on both sides of the car...

In normal light it doesn't stand out like it does in these pictures.

That would irritate the crap out of me too man! If it were me, I'd just let the professional knock it out and be done with it. if it comes back, hold him to it. Doubt it will though, that's why we go to professionals in the first place.

looks like buffer burns. I could be wrong, but its what it seems like to me from the provided pictures. I'd take it to an experienced detailer and let him see it first. 60.00 per side seems extremely cheap and would concern me.

let a professional take care of it. You do not want to mess it up even worst. For 120 bucks is a really good deal. Having said that , I hope you know the type of work this bodyshop does , it just seem a bit too cheap.

It's my go to body shop that I've taken previous cars to. They do great work. I'm going to get a few more quotes after christmas. I don't mind paying more. I just want it done right. I bought the car for myself for Christmas. I've only had it for two weeks. It is 2008 335i with 29,000 miles that was a lease. Got it for $24,700. Pretty good deal I think. Once this is fixed I will sleep peacefully again....but not until then! Haha

I've never seen anything like it. It was rough to the touch till I clay barred it.

Do you mind describing what your shop said they would do to remedy it? The paint needs to be reconditioned if its a buffer burn (again I believe it is. Source: Detailing cars for several years as a side gig). It's a little more involved process and should be charged as such.

Don't mind at all. That's why I'm here.

They didn't say. That's what I hope to find out here. I searched buffer burns and it looks somewhat like the pictures I found. All I know is I want to take it to the the place that looks at it and immediately identifies the cause and solution without any hesitation. The right place! I must find such a place! I was hoping to find someone like that here that way I knew to listen for when searching for the right craftsman to fix it.

I swear it looks like someone took a damn paintbrush to it.

Put some rubbing alcohol on a microfiber rag and rub it, if it's a wax it will come off. If not try a little compound, if it's just on the clear coat that will take it out for sure.

IPA with a 50/50 mixture if you must. I wouldn't do anything and just take it to a great detailer. I use to live in Waco, TX. If you tell me what city your in I may be able to recommend a good detailer to get a quote from.

So I don't know any detailers in that area but I did a bit of looking around and this company is a mobile detailer that seems really good:

Mobile Auto Detailer:
http://handwax.net/

His youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/user/shiningmichael/videos

reading through his site and watching a few of his videos, he seems to know his stuff. I would feel very confident giving him my vehicle.

Sorry I couldn't give a personal recommendation.

if you bought it two weeks ago at the dealer ( you said it was off lease) , why not take it back to them and tell them about the paint. Unless you already knew about it before purchasing the vehicle

I bought it for tx auto direct here in houston. They bought it at an auction. After searching the vin last night i found out the original owner/leaser was Borla Industries. They used it as a test vehicle I assume as it had their Aggressive Catback system on it. At any rate, If Tx Auto Direct did it I'm not about to bring its back to them for round two... I got a deal on the car so I'd rather foot the bill myself and have it fixed properly.

I contacted Borla through eBay and asked them for a history of the car. Maybe something will show up there.

Was not buffer burn. It was left over compound. While attempting to get an estimate, the body shop guy buffed it out in less than five minutes. For free at that!!

+1
Doesn't look like OEM defects.

Clay bar did nothing but remove the roughness. Yesterday, as I mentioned above, the body shop guy buffed it out with a pneumatic buffer and a light compound. Took less than 5 minutes for both sides. I offered him $20 but he said it was his pleasure. He was astonished that it looked so good for a 6 year old car. I spent four hours the other day washing, clay barring, waxing, and detailing it so it is rather immaculate right now.

To anyone reading this that has never taken a clay bar to their car. DO IT!!! It was my first time and the results are impeccable. The paint is so incredibly smooth its ridiculous. I watched a Instructional video on YouTube first.

Now my car is practically flawless aside from a tiny chip on the front edge I'd the hood. I had a black car before this that was a pain in the ass to keep looking good. I must say that I absolutely love the Alpine White. It looks beautiful even when dirty. Moreover, the paint BMW uses is much richer and lustrous than other white cars. I'm so pleased with my purchase. I find myself just staring at maher sometimes.

2 bucket wash, clay, RO buffer with M105 then M205, lastly M20 Polymer sealant. Boom you just made your car look brand new.
