M5 Guy's 2012 Monte Carlo Blue X5M Journal
Aloha Guys,
Figured I would post up a little journal of my car to document it's status at the various stages of it's build. I recently got rid of an e70 and f30 for another e70. 2012 X5 M with only 4,300 miles and every option except rear entertainment. I was going new, but this one came into the dealer and could not ignore it. The wife hates driving and with the girls getting into a school 5 minutes from our work, two vehicles were no longer needed. So I did what any sane man would do. Why pay for two normal bmw's when you can pay less for one insane vehicle. My kids will never be late for anything. Below are the specs and dealer photos from the ad. 2012 X5 M Monte Carlo Blue Metallic Full perforated Silverstone with carbon leather trim Active ventilated Seat Package Cold Weather Package - lol being in Hawaii Driver Assistance Package Premium Sound Package Rear Climate Package Comfort Access Soft close doors High gloss roof rails Leather dashboard and center console Side view camera BMW apps As for mods on this beast I have everything planned out. The fact that there isn't too many options mod wise on this car makes it easier. So far I already have the wheels on order from my sponsor Morr, and lighting upgrades on their way. I will be constantly updating this thread as parts arrive and the build begins.

Love it, I highly recommend getting it or Velos. Really unlocks the true potential of these beasts. Not having to worry about flashing to stock and warranty claims is the nice part about Dinan and they put up respectable numbers. I'll hit the strip soon to see how it compares with others on the 1/4 mile thread. The pics of your F30 just loaded. I saw it on facebook a while ago and fell in love, absolutely gorgeous

Unfortunately the track is closed now. All there is now is either autocross at the stadium parking lot or rally cross where the track used to be. Hopefully the build a track soon though it would be interesting to take the X5M autocrossing... The interior is silverstone. |

Mod update:
The Weisslicht LED corner lights and Osram CBI's came in yesterday. Installation wasn't too bad, but it did take longer than it should have. The corner lights were purchased from bimmian and the hid bulbs from theretrofitsource. For anyone installing the corner lights the biggest tip I can give is to take a small flathead screwdriver to the connecting point for the prongs on the led light itself to open them up some. I could not get them installed for the life of me at first. Used the screwdriver trick and they went in first try. Here is a pic of the screwdriver that saved the day: And here are a couple installed pics: I went with the amber colored ones as I am only after the yolkless look in the assembly. The light bulbs themselves have a nice professional look to them No more countless led's exposed. Plus no error codes so far. Now for the hid bulbs. Oem are 4300k, which provide the most light output albeit with a yellowish color. I like my hid's to be a pure white so I went with the Osram CBI's. I have had these CBI's on all of my builds as they are the best bulbs out there right now imo. What makes them so special is that you get that pure white light due to the 5500k rating, but at the same time, keep the light output of a 4300k bulb. In short no downsides to going with these bulbs. Every other bulb on the market sacrifices output for color, which make them nonviable options for me. Close up of the box: Installation wise, super easy once I figured it out. All you do is pull off the connector, unscrew the bulb, transfer the bulb holder to the new bulb, and reinstall. I kept expecting it to have some clips like the e9x's and f30's have. Nope just unscrew and remove, piece of cake. Regarding the angel eyes, the lux ones are in the mail and should be here soon to complete the exterior lighting section of this build. |

Mod update:
So I have been in talks with Brian at bmwpedals about their paddles and pedals for this build. Of course I wanted something a little custom and he was more than willing to hook it up. Went black with light blue etching. The black to contrast the silverstone and the blue etching to tie in the mcb and 12 o clock stripe of the mperformance wheel that I have on order. The pics below are of my set they just sent me. I can't wait to get them. Just look at these things. |
