Replaced mine about 4 months ago. No real warning signs other than the printout I got from the pre-purchase inspection. Once it goes bad things happen... I'd change if it you are on the original.

Yeah i changed mine last fall. I didnīt notice anything until my friend took out flaps in the intake manifold and car was 2-3hours hood open.Car didnīt want to start after that.
If you have original bmw battery.Donīt you have those lights, which will show your battery charge level/condition?

While the OEM battery on my '08 128i is still ok at 40k miles, I had to replace the one in my CPO '07 328i wagon a few months ago at 48k.
The wagon has had a number of electrical problems requiring warranty replacement of the alternator, IBS (severe overcharging) and JBE so I wasn't too surprised when the original battery finally failed. With all of the new parts, the new battery is doing fine, but I'll probably replace the 128i's battery next year, just in case Just watch out for things like spurious "Low Battery" warnings (especially within one minute of shutting down the engine with the ignition left on), trip odometer resetting to zero, and intermittent Comfort Access malfunctions. And seriously consider a Battery Tender if the car isn't used for a couple of weeks or longer. Tom |

I'm still using the original battery on my '06 e90 with 56k miles. I guess I should look out for those warning signs mentioned above?

For a few months before I changed the battery, I got weak cranks and low battery warnings within a minute of shutting off the engine but leaving the radio on. One day it just completely died out of no where and wouldn't start. Weird because before that it seemed perfectly fine.

I changed mine last month. No early warning sign. I drove my car, got out, went back to the car and it did not start. I had it towed to the dealer and got the battery replaced.

Going strong and 5 years 7 months but I use a battery tender a lot when not driving the car.
I have my coding cable and will download the coding software so I don't need to visit the dealer for registration... |

Mines original but I am going to be replacing it soon, I've already gotten the dreaded dead battery with leaving the car on without engine running.
Cars been @ BMW though so haven't had a chance to take care of that as of yet. |

Killed my first battery a couple of years ago after not using a battery tender for winter storage along with a ton of short trips. Expensive mistake. Before it died I occasionally got a ton of warning lights on startup, and once my car wouldn't let me shift out of park with a "transmission failure" message. Went away after restarting though.

Original battery on my 2006
Approx 60k miles (100,00ish km). No low battery errors, though 90% of my driving is highway, no short trips. |

I have the original one at 110000km / 4.5 years. My Accord had its original one (Delco) at 145000km / 6.5 years.
I would trust it to last another year, but at the same there is no point in waiting because I am past mid-life with my car. I will change it before winter. Anecdote. When I got my car it had a current drainage. Basically I had to jump start it every day or two. It took many visits to fix and I must have done it 15-20 times. Convinced that the whole thing might have harmed the battery, I asked for a new one. Of course it was denied, but they were right; it wasn't affected. I also have a Scangage II that tells me all the time the voltage of the battery. |

Mine is an 06 with 85K miles, changed it due to a print out reading when I had the water pump and thermostat replaced. I say get it done between 60-80K even if there's no warning if you're driving an 06/07.

I'll probably end up doing the spark plugs also. Recommend replacing ignition coils?

I didn't do it myself. There are only a few DIY that I can do. I always tend to break more than I fix/upgrade, haha. I do know that you have to register the battery, unsure how involved that is.
