E90 Sunroof malfunction--Motor failure Diagnosed by dealer

Hey Guys brand new to this forum.
I own a 2006 330i.

I opened the sunroof and it stopped moving when it opened 3/4 of the way.
"Anti-trap function" warning came on, and I tried the reset (hold button for 30+sec) which did absolutely nothing. So I called the dealer and brought it in today.

After waiting....5 hours..yes 5 hours..for them to diagnose it. They said it seems the motor is the problem. I paid the $120 diagnosis fee. They told me that they didn't have the part in stock but quoted me $670 for the repair if I came in next time.

My first thought is that...is it normal for the "anti trap function" warning to come on when the motor fails? I thought if the motor failed it would just fail with no warning light... I was really hoping they would just need to reset the software or something to get it to work--i didn't think to ask if they tried that but i ASSUME the dealership would be smart enough to know for sure its not just a software reset thing and that it is in fact the motor.

Also I was wondering how difficult of a job it is to change the motor, is it worth the $670 at the dealership??

What are your thoughts?

Try resetting it with a BAV tool??

Does it make any noises? If the motor burned out, it wouldnt make any noises? right?

$670 sounds insane.

anti trap is built into the motor...thus if the motor has an internal issue in any of the circuits...it needs to be replaced. Its not as simple as power and ground here people...

what was your problem did your sunroof not budge at all?what did they do? reset it? I mean I hope they aren't wrong and falsely diagnosing it with a motor failure. Thanks

yeah that's what im wondering...if it is part of the motor and thus fails in conjunction with the motor then the warning would make sense.

I guess my motor must be burned out or else i'd think it would move with the rest (pushing for 30sec)..and im sure the dealer is smart enough to try that
