My dad is in his late 40's and is wanting to get a new car he use to have a BMW in the 80's and wants to get anther BMW he wants something with 2 doors and preferably manual but won't mind automatic. He wants the 2011/2012 m6 but doesnt want spend 70grand. He thinks the 3 series is only for young people and Dosent want to drive the same car as his son (335i). He thinks an m3 is out of his league and only young kids in there 20's and 30's drive it and he wouldnt look good in it. With all that said is the e9x m3 suitable for him. He's single btw. Sorry i ment to post this in the m3 section feel free to comment!

Is it suitable for a 40+ year old man? Absolutely
Is it suitable for your Dad? Doesn't sound like it. If he doesn't want the car, then he doesn't want the car. It takes a certain type person to appreciate the E9X M3 for what it is and it sounds like your Dad doesn't quite fit that mold. |

And to OP, all depends on your dad, his taste his choice. I know my dad wouldnt be caught dead in a "small sporty" car. he's always been about "big luxury" ie. why he drives a 750. lol |

I guess I qualify as a person of the OP dad's age.
I just got rid of an e36 M3. Drive an e90 335i with carbon and plan to do mods. If I didn't have 3 kids, I'd be in a e92 M3, forget the 335. |

Same here. With kids it is a different story. I just sold my E36M3/4 and got the 335 Sedan...would love another M3, but I have to say I also find it hard to shell out 50k for a used M3 with 40k miles on it...hence the 335.

I just turned 43 and I consider the 5 series nice but an older persons car. Not sporty enough for me. (except M5 of course). So I don't know what that says about me. Lol. I'm looking at buying another 3 series sedan as my wife's / family car. My next fun car will most likely be the M3.
My first BMW was a 1976 2002 that I bought 20 years ago and have been driving 3 series for the last 12 years after owning an Audi and 2 VR6 VW Passats all modded. Driving an E93 right now along with a couple of SUVs and a Harley road king. I also had a Ducati sport bike that I sold 5 years ago. So I guess it comes down to your dads style.

If he wants the new which would be 2012/2013 for future reference, then he may not like the m3, its a much different car. IMO m3 is more of a track car that can be driven every day, and the m6 is a high power touring car. Also the M6 is over 100k, and the M3 is starting price 70k, so he isn't getting a new M3 either if he doesn't want to spend $70,000.

Any car that he doesn't want is not the car for him. Besides, the M3 is not a car you should be convinced you want. You do or you don't.
Perhaps a CPO 635i? |

I think the car would be perfect for someone your dad's age. But it doesn't seem as if he wants the car.
Maybe a Mercedes? E550 coupe would be a good choice in the price range of an M3 (or a C63 coupe). Or why not just a normal 650i? You don't really need the M if you don't want to spend the $$. Maybe the Porsche CaymanS/BoxsterS?
