Question Diesel in US

I just read rumor about 2009 Accord Diesel and possibly CRV, Element and other Honda SUVs. I'm wondering if BMW has any plans to import Diesel-powered cars to US as we already have ultra low sulfur diesel here. 325d/335d would be a great car for my 90+ miles commute.

The diesels should be here late next year, or into 2009.

Id buy one myself, and just shit over everything with 450ft/lbs at my disposal

Yes, BMW NA has confirmed diesel for US starting in 2008. First up is the X5 3.0d.

Thumbs up Price & Engine Size

Thanks for the info, guys! What engine size they will be using? They have 320d, 325d, 330d & 335d in Europe so I'm guessing they will import 335d and 328d to US with 328d tuned between 325d & 330d performance-wise and milage-wise. Introducing Diesel on SUV earlier makes sense because the Emission law for SUV is more lenient.

The premium in price for BMW Diesel Models in Europe is about $1500-2000. MB E320bluetec is $1000 more then E350. I hope they keep them about $1000 more expensive.

The test will be in the most influential emissions states, i.e. Cali., NY, MA, ME, VT. I don't think it's just the vehicle, it's also the availability of low sulfur diesel. I think we all know how supply/demand works from ECON 101.

$1000 more (E320), less HP, more torque, less performance, more mpgs. Not a good trade-off, kinda like hybrid math.

Damn right! My 330d (42mpg) feels like the e39 M5 I used to drive! I measured the 60-90kph (37-56mph) time the other day. This is a better indication of real-world overtaking power than 0-60mph, IMO: 2.6 seconds

You`re about spot on there Paul, check out the "passing" figures from my G-tech. 40-60 mph in 2.9 secs. and then you have about 45 hp more than me.

Well, it wasn't very scientific, TBH: I just used a stopwatch & watched the speedo. That g-tech looks like an interesting piece of kit. One of those 'unnecessary-but-must-have-it' gadgets Do you have any more details?
