Motor Trend First Drive: 2011 BMW X6 M Review
BIMMERPOST NEWS Motor Trend First Drive: 2011 BMW X6 M Review It has been quite a while since we've seen a review of the X6 M, which was released to much acclaim from the automotive press. Motor Trend now chimes in with their first test drive review, and they echo what many have said before them, calling the experience "maniacal" and its engineers "nutty." Here are some of our favorite quotes from the FULL REVIEW: Quote:

I drove one at an M event and let me tell you maniacal definitely is understating it. I stomped on the left pedal! wrrommp wrrrroommp my head pinned to the headrest, trying to upshift but my head keeps hitting the headrest! I couldn't shift gears myself that's how fast the darn thing was.
Indeed M engineers...Stay Nutty

Best part of the trip to pick up my x6 at the performance center was when I got out on the track, one of the instructors told me: we don't have an x6 for you to drive today...so we got you an x6M. I am sure they play this trick with everyone who comes to pick up x6 there...

X6 35i weighs 4,784 lbs, 535i weighs 4,090 lbs, difference is 694 lb. The real question will be how much weight does the M5 gain over the 535i (bigger engine will add 100-200 pounds) but what about other things? For instance the X6M weighs 5,324 pounds, 540 more than the X6 35i! I guess you could be correct if BMW limits the M5 weight gain to ~250 over the 535i but that will be tough. On a brighter note, the X6M uses a 6 speed automatic, if the M5 uses a 7 speed and newer transmission that might also shave a little time off. I think this thing should be under 3.9 seconds for sure, maybe even as good as 3.7, sorry CTS-V, you lose! |

My brother-in-law has an X5M. I've only ever driven it once, but that thing is an absolute beast as well.

I know the X5 and X6 M have massive engines but when you look at something of that size (or any SUV really), it doesn't look like it would push mid-four second times but exactly four seconds? That's a serious engine! With all the bashing going on with the F10 M5, I'm very anxious to see what numbers that it pulls in around the track.
