V1 problem

Calling all you V1/ hardwire gurus. I had the V1 hardwired for the past 3 years w/out a problem. The V1 decided not to work last night. So I opened up the glovebox and took a look at the fuse. Both 3 & 5 amp mini fuses looked fine to me. I also check the cylinder fuse for the direct wire power adapter and it didn't blow.

I changed the fuse tap to another location and it also didn't work. I plugged the V1 directly to the cig. lighter and worked perfectly. I am thinking if it is the direct wire power adapter (picture 2) busted or what?

Any ideas? see pics for reference.

As described I would agree with your assessment...can you get out an ohmmeter?

Yeah Im not either but you can at least use it to check if the wires are carring current. Unlimited resistance (ohms) means no continuity...means bad wiring. Similarly you can use an ammeter to check if there is power flowing through the fuse circuit.

considering it was working for so long, try changing the RJ phone cable first to see if that's the issue.

Double check your ground cable too.

Yea, check to see if the direct wire adapter is getting power. You can use a DMM (Digital MultiMeter) to see if the add-a-fuse is providing power to the adapter. You can simply use the leads that come with the DMM to check. Black lead to ground, and red lead to red wire on add-a-fuse. If you use the turn on fuse, make sure the car is on and check if you see a voltage on the DMM.

Most likely would be the adapter but this way you can isolate if its the problem.
