Faulty Connector for Hood Switch?
While driving today, the warning message that the hood was open kept popping up on the iDrive. Although the hood was closed, it kept giving me the warning.
Is it possible that the "connector for the hood switch" is disconnected? Or that it isn't working? Also, if it's disconnected or not working, I'm assuming the alarm won't trigger if someone were to lift the hood right? |

It's most likely a bad hood switch. It is a very common failure on E38/39s and the E53. Not that common on E9x cars, mainly because most don't have an alarm so no hood switch, but it happens. Replace the hood switch. They are pretty cheap and super easy to replace. It looks like a spring loaded plunger and is mounted in the left rear of the engine compartment near the microfilter and brake reservoir cover. Hope that helps
