E92 DRL and Tail Lights?

My angel eye DRL's seem to work correctly. I can successfully turn them on and off with the NAV system although others have reported problems. My question is related to daytime running light function. I noticed for the first time today that my tail lights are also on with just the angel eyes? Is that correct? I have also owned other cars with DRL's but the tail lights were off.

Someone else just brought up this point today and I'm seeking verification. I'm with you thinking that on other cars with DRL, the tail lights are not illuminated.

Lame. I like them better on the E90. Its cool how the Corona Rings light up brighter, but I hate that the tail lights come on also. This isnt a SAAB. I dont need all my lights on, all day. thanks.

this is indeed correct. our prep guy was going nuts when we started getting the E92s in because the DRL on the coupes come on from factory settings and also use the halos and turn on the tail lights, so he thought all of them were stuck in parking lamps on...not so......completely normal on e92s.

well thats kinda dumb..they definitely should have given the option to not have the tails on with the corona rings as drl's..can you turn them on and off if you dont have idrive?

Note: Tail lights are LED so don't worry that you will be burning out bulbs when you use DRL feature. IMHO, better to have DRL on than off.

Yes you can turn the DRL's on/off without iDrive:

Activating/deactivating daytime
running light*
For operating principle refer to page 58.
1. Lightly push button 1 in the turn indicator
stalk up or down repeatedly until the symbol
appears in the display accompanied by the
word "SET".
2. Press button 2.
3. Lightly push button 1 in the turn indicator
stalk down repeatedly until the symbol
appears in the display.
4. Press button 2.
5. Use button 1 to select:
>
Daytime running light activated.
>
Daytime running light deactivated.
6. Press button 2.
The setting is stored.

I believe that is one of the options that the dealer will go over with you when he PDIs your car before you take delivery.

Good, they should come on! Too many people drive with the DRLs on in inclement weather and you can't see them from behind b/c their rear lights aren't on.

its normal, but i do wish our halos looked better, to be honest our E92 halos look like shit in comparison with all the other halos like on the E90, the 7, and the 5.

I just checked it out on my new E92 335 and the tail lights are indeed on with the DRLs.

Dealership has to do it if you don't have iDrive. They usually ask you when you pick up the car.

Not true. The question pertained to the E92 DRL's. Please don't give advice if you haven't RTFM!

The DRL function can be accessed through the OBC ...
