new member - help!
i have a 2006 325i w/ approx. 104k miles --was driving home last night when the alarm came on that my engine overheated. no other alarms came on but the engine overheat. pulled over, popped the hood and the coolant reservoir was wet. and a puddle made its way to the ground. refilled it after it cooled & the car ran fine. about two hours later, the same thing happened. i checked the heater inside & it blew hot air for a second, then turned to cold.
any idea what the culprit is? thanks guys! |

Could be a bad thermostat or coolant pump. Would take it in a get it checked to be sure though.

i had that happen with my previous car. you should definitely get it fixed. i forgot what the reason was though but it was leaking coolant.

yeah, sounds like there's either a coolant leak, or the thermostat is stuck closed.

had two mechanics come look at it this weekend. did a pressure test & it held fine. couldn't find any leaks. thermostat is opening & water pump is working as well. head gasket was also ruled out. ran it for 25 minutes or more & it never overheated. the only time we could get it to overheat was at holding it at 2000. but once again when we re-filled the reservoir, it was empty the next morning. so there has to be a leak somewhere, right???
i had taken the car to the dealership a day or two before it overheated to trade it in and they kept it overnight to have some other dealers come look at it. the first time i pulled over when it overheated, the radiator cap wasn't on all the way. could this be the cause of the whole problem? ugh. |

Hey I just looked at your join date and assumed that you just joined the club. If I was wrong, my bad.
Now that they've hit the used car market, I guess anyone can afford these cars now.... Enjoy your second hand ride "dude" Last edited by jocamryn; 03-17-2010 at 08:55 AM.. |
