How good is HiFi Sound system compared to the Logic 7? I'm in between two really great deals on two 2009 e92 335i. One has Logic 7 but it's an xdrive, and the other one has HiFi but sports package and 140 miles.

What are your comments??

I own a 2006 650i with Logic 7, and a 2006 325i with Hi-Fi sound system. While there is no question that the Logic 7 system is better, the Hi-Fi system in the models thru 2009 (Item 676) is really quite good. [Apparently, that is NOT the case for the downgraded 2010 base system Item code 663.] For me, the Hi-Fi sound is good enough that I would not pay for the upgrade in a car audio system. I have a 2011 335i e93 on order for ED (will replace 650i); comes with Hi-Fi sound as base system, and based on my experience with both sound options, I am sticking with that and not upgrading.

If you really want Sport Package, that may be the deciding factor for you.

I couldn't agree more with this. The HiFi 10 speaker setup is quite good; L7 is a bit better with moderately improved lows. Personally, I thought L7 was worth the few extra bucks. You certainly won't be disappointed with either.

Thanks for informing me! They both come with sports package but the x drive only comes with the sport seats but the suspension in the x drive is non-sport, which is basically as if it never had sports package.

I had Logic 7 in my 530 and don't on my 07' 328i.

Granted this is two different cars so its no apples to apples but the 7 is a little bit better but when I found what I wanted and that was the only delete I had to relent on that issue and really find the base set up quite good. I would have ordered Logic from the factory but like others Im not sure its really worth the money.

If you like your urban music to be "felt", neither set up will do this.

Sound is subjective so everyone has a differnt opinion on what sounds "good' or acceptable. I am a bit of an audiophile and have a pretty good ear, but in reality its "What I like" that counts.

In short Base system is very good, Logic 7 is not quantum leap.

Careful with the terminology - the US did not get the "base" system until 2010. In the EU and other markets, "base" has always meant deck power to F and R 4", and underseat 6", but in the US that took effect in 2010.

The biggest advantage of HiFi, and why I'm glad my car had it, is that it's EASY to upgrade and get great sound (at least compared to L7). With flat, full-range, analog front and rear outputs, a good system design can work wonders.

I'm trying to clarify some thoughts here. I'm looking at ordering a 2011 coupe, and am trying to decide on the HK upgrade. I test-drove a 2010 coupe, the stereo was built into the nav/i-drive system. I believe this was the base stereo, and my CD's did not sound good. The HD radio was acceptable, but not on par with what I'd expect. I didn't tweak the system much with the salesman with me, but would be interested on other feedback regarding the base system. Also curious if dropping $900 for the HK upgrade will be a huge improvement. There are a lot of comments about HIFI sound in this thread, is that the upgraded system being referred to.

IN internal documents, BMW has the base audio, the HiFI, and the DSP.

Since the E90 came out they have called the DSP system the Logic 7 in sales marketing materials. I have heard that "h/k" is replacing Logic 7.

Bu I don't know what's changing about the architecture of the system, if anything.

- Will it lose the Logic 7 effects (two sets of rears? Center?)

- Will the MOST connector go away in favor of analog?

- Will it remain the same?

I don't know, and I suspect no salesperson on a BMW lot does either.

For all I know they are using "h/k" on the old HiFI system and dropping Logic 7 altogether.

You can't upgrade base audio to sound better than HIFi for $900, so for $900, if you're not considering an aftermarket upgrade, I'd do it. My 2007 HiFi system was much better than 2010 base audio.

If you're going to go aftermarket upgrade anyway, save the money and get base audio, now that we know how to recode.

I'm still confused. I only see 2 options, the base offering, or the upgrade to the LOGIC 7 (or H/K in the 2011). So, where does the 'HI FI' come into play. I don't see this as an option. Is this an upgraded stereo in the 335 (over the the 328), or am I missing that there are 2 stereo upgrades offered.

FYI, Also, I don't intend on going after market.

I was addressing the totality of E90 system options over time. Apparently Premium/HiFi is no longer being brought into the States (if it is being made at all in 2010). However, those three systems (plus the M3 individual system) are what have existed in the BMW universe for some time.

I thought that Logic 7 cost more than $800-odd dollars more. Can anyone speak to the base-to-Logic-7 upgrade charge in 2010 for the US?

I am wondering if the h/k system is just HiFI with a brand on it.

Regardless, it's an easy answer. Base audio in 2010 sucks ass. If you only have ONE upgrade option above base audio, I don't care what it's called, if you can afford eight bills for it, BUY IT.

I have a client who drove a 2009 X5 with HiFi, and thought that the non-upgraded system would be fine when he ordered his 2010. Boy, was he mad. (His new upgraded system blows them all away : )

Nadaguides.com and bmwusa.com both list it as $875 MSRP ($795 invoice) for a 2010 e92 335i.

So for 875 you get flat 8 instead of crappy 6" underseat, tweeters, an optical out on the HU, and a 9-channel amp. You also get a center channel and rear effects speakers, but I wouldn't spend money to get those.

In the Audi A3, the single biggest improvement you can make to the audio system, for the money, is to disconnect the center speaker in the dash. I wonder if the same holds for the L7?

shouldn't you be more concerned with the fact that one is all wheel drive and the other isn't? that is a much bigger choice in my opinion.
