Handsfree phone echoes

I have an 07' 335i and when I plug my I-phone 3GS into the port and try to use the hands-free device the person on the other end complains of the sound echoing. I thought it worked fine until more than 1 person told me this. I have since quit using this feature. Is there a remedy for this problem?

AUX plug in the center console.
