Cool Cruise Feature

I was going up Mount Revelstoke, B.C. & was on cruise at about 40km/hr. When I entered a tight switchback, the cruise reduced the speed of my car and resumed once I was in a straight line again. There was no wheel slippage(which disengages cruise). The must be a G-force sensor at work with cruise I guess. I would have liked to try a higher speed but my wife was trying to read her book and was cranky enough already.

I think there is something to do with the DSC that make it possible for the cruise control to react like that...

Yeah, sounds like DSC intervening.

Do you have an automatic? Those switchbacks are rather tight and steep aren't they? My cruise control won't even engage below 20 mph and disengages whenever I change gears. I went up there in 1985 in a Toyota Celica GT and never got out of 2nd gear. OK, a 2.4 litre 4-banger doesn't have half the horsepower the 390 has but still, I can see why your wife was cranky.

Is the road still gravel? What was the meadow like at the top? It should be in full bloom right about now.

I think my car did that once also, I have not recreated it but I think I was going down a hill, so the car slowed itself down too. DSC kicks in alot, but I guess it is just the way I drive

Cruise won't work if you disable DSC/DTC. Try it. it must be DSC.

The cruise control we have will apply brakes when going downhill to maintain you desired speed. That is what you felt.

Holy crap. I had no idea. This car is freaking awesome. I would have figured that the active cruise might do something like this, but not the regular one!

You sure it applies the brakes, sounds rather unlikely?

Yes it does - only on 6 cylinder models though. 4 cylinder models do not have this feature. Its in the brochure as I recall...

mine doesn't disengage when I shift, if you let the rpm's get too high or low it'll even tell you to shift.

The road is paved. Full bloom at top... very nice. Your Cruise should not disengage when changing gears. Mine doesn't
