New guy!

Hey everyone new guy here.. I have been looking at getting either an e46 330i ZHP or a 2006 330i w/ sport package. I really like the looks and little touches the ZHP has, but I am looking to get a newer car with less miles I can keep for a while. I was looking at other brands, Audi, Lexus, and even Infiniti. I have an IS300 now, and I don't want to get another car I will get tired of - I am afraid that will happen with one of the other brands. All I have heard is how much fun the BMW is to drive, and if that is true it may be the car I need.

I just can't decide between the 6 speed or automatic. I want the manual but my fiance can't drive manual, and she WILL want to drive it. I know having manual will make the drive even more enjoyable. She doesn't show any interest in learning to drive manual though - I offered to teach her.

Question, how many of you take your 3's on roadtrips? I go to Florida a few times throughout the year, and want something to ride at least decently smooth - how is it with the sports package?

Also I noticed BMW does not make the 330i any longer, should this concern me? Should I be looking at the 328i instead? I don't plan on modding other than tint and maybe work on the sound system, so the 18" wheels and overall appearance of the 330i appeals to me more than the 328i.

Thanks a lot - I am really glad I found this forum. I did not think anything existed for the e90+ series BMWs.

This forum rocks for E90s (including the other e9xes too). Bmw upgraded for 2007 with the 335. Sucks for the 330 owners but they still have a great car. Soon enough bmw will kick up the numbers again and leave us wanting to upgrade. Either that or they'll continue using the new nomenclature as seen in the x6 or z4, etc.

I'm just speculating there.

Get the manual . I've taken mine on a few roadtrips (400-500 miles or so one way) and it was great. Mpg was awesome and the ride was right on. I came from a truck, so keep that in mind. Sports suspension is much nicer than truck suspension.

welcome!
go for the 06 330i all the way! it all works out..its a newer model..and people on e90post are much cooler than those on e46fanatics! well about the transmission dilemma, just go for auto, its not that bad, and both you and your wife will be happy. and as for the ride..I've never sat in an IS300 but i do have a 335i and the suspension is pretty stiff, but you'll surely get used to it. hope this helps!

Welcome to the forum!

Don't worry about getting a 330. They're great cars and plenty of members here are happy 330 owners. They'll vouch that the 330 has a great combination of power and comfort. It also has the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the 3-series.

I've never taken my e90 with sport package on a road trip (that's what my truck is for), but I have a fairly long commute, so I can imagine what a road trip would feel like. I think you'll have a great time road tripping with an e90. If my 335i is any indication, highway mileage will be great for you and the sport suspension is fine on freeways and long trips.

Enjoy your time here and good luck on your impending purchase!

Oh, yeah, buy a manual. She'll understand. And if she doesn't, well, you can always just blame "those guys on e90post" for making you do it.

Get the E9x 330i. I had an E46 330Ci and I loved it. But the new body style is pretty nice and it will grow on you. BTW... Welcome!
