Adaptive Cruise Control Question

Function can be disabled by pressing either distance button. However, after re-starting car the system is automatically activated again.

Can it be disengaged until needed?

Thank you but that does not explain how to keep distance control off until required.
Also, all the controls shown on the video’s steering wheel are not present on my car.
Lastly, the display is different.
