Tactile feel to iDrive buttons for manual
Is it me…. Or do the buttons barely click down making it feel like you didn’t press the button??
To me it’s one of my biggest annoyances with the car. From my knowledge the auto gets a completely different setup and buttons. Anyone else notice this? |

Yes, I agree the buttons on the center console are horrible, you can't even tell if you've pressed it or not.
There's no tactile feedback or click noise. |

I legit thought something was wrong when I first started using it, I hate that there is no feel. It has to be something specific to the manual iDrive controls because I had a brand new 3 series as a loaner during my run in service and the buttons all had the nice tactile button feel you would expect.

I agree, the button press "feel" is awful. I even questioned if they were buttons at all.
I may be biased cause I loooove a clickity-clack of a mechanical keyboard

Not really sure if the OEM is different between the auto vs. 6MT. I didn't like the buttons on my daughter's G42 when I brought her car home last April. And when she got into my G87 last weekend, she was setting up her profile and immediately said, these keys suck!
I feel like even a Kia has better feedback. |

I have a growing dissastifaction with the iDrive buttons.. the lack of tactile feel, knowing you have pressed it, is a bother. That said, hit the media button 10x more than anything else, and am finding it not respond a couple of times lately. At 2300 miles, I suspect 10k miles more the button is going to start to have issues and will need to be replaced. Under warranty that is one thing, once out that is another.

I've added a hockey for media (push up on the controller) It's especially bad when Android Auto is on screen. Hitting the home or media buttons is sooooo laggy or unregistered presses I sometimes wanna listen to the radio or XM. But when Android Auto Pandora is defaulted: pressing HOME or MEDIA doesn't even register. Then the mashing and anger begins I just created the hockey and it works great

They don't really function well or at all when I have gloves on (for track driving). Super frustrating.

Thank you for the shortcut idea, took a few rides to get used to as I never used shortcuts before, but now definitely prefer this over looking down to find the buttons!

It's like they want to be like Apple and simulate the feel of a press.
I was looking at it in Protool yesterday, and if I rest my finger on one of the buttons it will detect the touch. Maybe they have some additional functionality planned for the future. But yes they do suck!
