Stock Dyno of a Euro OPF G87 M2 - Evolve Video

With the RIS completed we got our development car on the dyno to see how much power it was making, and also compare to our old RWD G80 M3.

Figures are calculated crank on a Dyno Dynamics.

With all the detuning that's done on the G87 M2 from the factoty it makes me wonder how detuned the S58 on my first gen X3 M Competition is.

Should be 468 at the wheel, not the crank. Isn’t the calc for the crank about 15% more?

Oh, he did say calculated flywheel figures. Seems low from some of the others I’ve seen.

As said this is calculated crank, so however you want to work back to WHP feel free.

This car is on the Cup 2 tyres which generally read a little lower but without back to backing it with some PS4S hard to say.

Either way we have our baseline, more interesting to us was the comparison to the G8X M3/M4 graph shape.

I am wondering if the OPF installed for EU has contributed to some of the lower expected power levels compared to other dynos.

What a useless video! What was the correction factor used?

He is reporting “crank HP” which has a completely arbitrary/made up correction factor, which he does not disclose.

Wasted my time watching this.

I think it's not so much detuned as you're comparing a competition with comes with more HP to a base M model. Comparing a base M3 would be more fitting here.

We did not get the base model in the U.K., only the Competition.

C'mon guys, you are being way too harsh. It's people on the other side of the line too...

Imram seems like a fantastic guy, and I really love his demeanor and his videos. They are straight to the point and informative.

Matt@Evolve is it safe to say you guys can't see the WHP as the machine you have access to calculates that to BHP?

If so, that's a deficient machine, because you are always looking at numbers that are heavily modified... WHP is the closest we get to reality (numbers can be fudged and calculated too, but less than BHP), and is the basis for comparison with other numbers we have in North America.

While the comparison between Competition and Base is cool, I see the value in it (proves how the "detune" works up top), we'd like to see the WHP numbers to compare to other data sources (so we could compare NA M2 to GPF M2 sold in Europe).

Let us know if the machine can spit that number out, I mean, why would they hide the source value and just give you the calculated one?

Only logical conclusion is the EURO OPF is changing the HP rating vs NA spec G87. The posted numbers at crank are completely different from the 10+ WHP figures we've seen over here in NA.

As others have said, what correction factor are u using to translate ur figures from WHP back to BHP? no idea why u euros guys always try u convert back to BHP.

I am not sure why anyone is upset with this video. Of course BMW detuned the G87, it's what they have always done.

The S58 is a phenomenal motor. Arguably one of the best BMW has produce to date. All the lessons learned from the past 3L turbo cars have been fixed, the internals are robust as hell and fuel system is prime for reliable power. They gave it to you guys on a silver platter.

The dyno's in the video show both how much they detuned the engine as well as demonstrated that they even left tons on the table in the G80. After 5700rpm they just tabled the power.

Slight side note:

If I had a G87 it would be black, have huge meats with a flush fitment, front carbon lip, rear carbon spoiler and most importantly, a TUNE!!!

Have u seen what north American g87s are making WHP.......?

This reading has bee replicated 10+ times. 463WHP = 545 BHP at 15% drivetrain loss....

I have indeed.. My post made no mention of the number they made vs NA. According to the video, the G87 makes less than the G82. This means there is tons left on the table. Unless Evolve has drastically changed the parameters on their dyno, it made less. Likely they were laying down a baseline for future tuning.

Then how is the G87 detuned? It's makes the same power as the non-comp G80/G82?

The G80c/G82c makes more power. But base for base they are virtually identical in peak numbers........"Of course BMW detuned the G87, it's what they have always"

This is why people are calling these guys out, it's not "detuned".

I would like to see a non comp G80/2 same day, same dyno as the G87. I would bet that it is less.

Same IND dyno, you would be wrong. G82, makes same power as I stated.
