Key difference or lack thereof.

I just happened to notice as I was fitting my keychains that both of my M2 keys have the cheap plastic backing. For my i4, one of the keys has a distinctly higher quality feel with a polished silver backing. The same went with my Q7, one nicer key and one for your SO.

Any of you with other recent BMWs have the same key arrangement as the i4?

Did all G87 owners get the same two bargain basement keys?

I don’t really give a shit but it feels like another way for BMW to save a few nickles (just like our missing Cubby hole that they forgot to take out of the Owners Manual but did remember to take out of our cars.) Neither of these could be Chip related so I don’t want to hear that noise. Maybe they’ll blame it on Shipping logistics?

Point taken. Do we know if the mighty G80 comes with the two different keys?

They had to give us the cheaper keys because the good keys had a problem with their left front struts.

I was making a bad joke. My G87 keys are the same, no "better" one of the pair.

The key fobs feel quite inferior to those from my 2019 G01 X3 and 2022 G07 X7. They are on par, quality-wise, with the 2017 F25 key, though that fob feels embarrassingly bloated. It has no heft to it and feels low quality. Have to say, even for a 2 series, the key just feels very underwhelming.

Do you have the ZF8 and Digital key? Sorry not recalling your build right now.

Comes in handy in the Tesla & i4. Didn’t realize it until I didn’t have it. Strange how that works. I have Keypad keys on our houses too. Over the last year I haven’t really carried keys at all unless I was on one of the bikes.

Didn’t mean to turn this into another Digital Key thread but I suppose it was inevitable.

Both keys are the same here and they’re fine, I haven’t seen the “better” keys from upper models.
Much better than the F25/F87 as Justin mentioned.

Don’t need fancier personally. They are plastic though.

I do not have a digital key on any of my BMWs. The G series X7 & X3 fobs have more metal and less cheap feeling plastic like that on the M2 fob. I do have the digital key (I think) but like many other people, I don't use it, because I need to carry keys that unlock, you know, like doors and stuff.

How reliable is the digital key? Coming from a Tesla, this is a big change for me. I used to carry just my phone everywhere(no keys, no wallet).

Not as convenient as the Tesla but it works without issue. It goes thru your iPhone Wallet, if that’s applicable. The Android version is similar.

Obviously not if you have a Manual, as it doesn’t exist.
