Verizon eSim finally setup

I spent an obscene amount of time on the phone with Verizon (Business, Inside Sales, Hum, Credit, Fraud, Connected Car, I’m surely missing a few departments) BMW Assist and BMW Genius. Finally today I was able to figure out what needed to happen and did it myself.

If you have a Verizon Business account, stop there. Ain’t gonna happen.

If anyone finds themselves dealing with Verizon bullshit, let me know and I’ll walk you through it.

I thought about setting this up with AT&T but then I saw an additional $20/mon for something my phone can technically offer (wireless tethering) what is the point? Is the service any better? Maybe i'll consider this for a month when I do my cross-country road trip.

I have ATT on my Porsches since that’s what VAG uses for their connected services. Does BMW allow different carriers? My actual phone account is Verizon.

When I go into the MyBMW app to try to activate eSIM, it does allow me to select AT&T, T-Mobile USA, or Verizon.

If you live it an area with good coverage on your phone, I would skip it.

One of my houses is in an area with almost no coverage and the antenna the BMW gets me 5G, allowing me is use of my phone and Waze, etc.

Supposedly eSim vehicles are also getting access to YouTube if that means anything to you, it doesn’t to me for ICE cars.

I still have my old Galaxy and with the eSim it should work.

I also enabled video in Bimmercode but still can’t figure out how to make it work or if it actually enables anything.

Does anyone have any idea of any future plans for this option? I'm optioning a car and I just took it off. As much as I love Youtube I can't justify the expense for that purpose. I don't have signal issues. I don't need an extra hotspot in my M2.

I'm wondering if they would ever develop access to the cars cameras. I'm guessing Teslas may do this, but not sure. So you could use them as security cameras and upload to the cloud, etc.

Probably just put that $300 toward a nice dashcam setup and call it a day.

Car only has a backup camera anyway, not much you can get out of that.

Hello cmgbk75

I am trying to assist a Partner at the company I provide IT support for with activating the E-SIM on their BMW. We have a Verizon Business account. I see you were able to get this fixed but also your note on using a Verizon Business Account.

Is the fix you had to switch to a personal Verizon Account?

I have noticed a difference in my Super Duty in some areas where my phone doesn’t have coverage. Perhaps because it’s a taller vehicle. However, you’re right, I don’t see a bunch of value using it in my other cars.

Yes, I had to temporarily add a personal line, go in and add the Connected Car, then drop the personal line.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, I see no use for this option, and definitely not something to pay an extra $20+ a month for. Skip this & the wireless phone heater if you're ordering this car

I'm not sure I'll use the esim I optioned but I'd rather have and not need. The wireless charger.. even the stupid center console variant.. I wouldn't be without.

Can you say more? You added a personal line via the business team.. then converted?
