TR with Cognac
(and decals)
Finally got my G87! Toronto Red, Cognac, Bicolor wheels, M perf decals. Put about 100 miles on it today, had a blast. I found the shifter experience far improved over my E90. Less rubbery, more gated, very solid thunk when slotting in, much stronger centering. I synced with it instantly and didn't mis-shift even once. Clutch is typical BMW, with the oddly high grab point. Shruuug. Sunroof is larger than I expected. With everything opened up it's a great cruiser. I was worried that Cognac wouldn't work with TR, but in person I think it looks very classy. I love the way the decals break up the otherwise huge stretches of mono color. MOPAR nostalgia! But it won't work for most people, I'm sure. You don't have to tell me you hate it lol. Everything else is as expected. The tech is quite good (except for all those irritating edge cases that JustinHEMI has already listed in his gripes thread). Suspension is top notch, grip is ferocious, steering is numb but precise. I like it very, very much and will like it more once I complete break in. It is hard keeping this motor below 5K. |

Nice ride and writeup! Very similar spec to mine (TR/cognac/sunroof/bi-color/manual) only difference is it looks like you have shadowline.
Maybe we'll run across each other in the Boston area sometime.

Boring ol Anthracite. It just seems to have less glare than the piano black or CF, and I hate, hate glare from interior parts. I would have picked a matte option if they had one.

I will try to snap some interior pics if the weather is nice tomorrow. I'll try to show how the Cognac looks, but I don't think Cognac photographs very well, TBH. |

Absolutely yeah this car doesn't photograph well, except for the side profile. I don't think photos capture how large those 20 inch rears look on that small coupe rear end. Side profile is where it's at for the G87. Even in my short drive today, and with most people not out due to the heat, I got some head turns. Two different BMWs pulled up alongside on the highway, probably curious because they had never seen a G87 in the flesh. So yeah, it's a novelty on the street for now. |

A guy in a 2021 M440 Convertible drove by at a rather high rate of speed while I was pumping gas the other day, 5 minutes later as I was leaving, he did a semi drift into the Gas Station with a completely dumbfounded look on his face. We then proceeded to have a great conversation for the next 30 minutes, turns out he lives on the next lake over and is a mini BMW collector and aficionado. I now have another boat to hang out on. This car is serving up dividends. |

Looks great!
Glad to hear your comments on the stick. Add a $12 Burger clutch stop, and the take up issue should be solved. Post more interior pics! |

Interior pics. The interior is very hard to photograph, so I opened everything I could to let light in. But without a spotlight boom, there's no way to get a lit shot of the back seats.
So this is the best I can do with the tools I got, hope it's enough! |

Couple more observations.
I know a lot of people don't like it, but I love the HUD. In sport mode It gives me only three things: speed, tach, next NAV turn. Not distracting (to me) at all. And it works fine with my polarized sunglasses. I know this is a YMMV thing, but for me it's all good. I do not like the e-brake. It's weird to just "trust" the car to secure itself. I'm fighting decades of muscle memory, I guess I'll get used to it eventually. The turning radius is bad compared to my E90. The downside of bigger fronts. The XPEL guy PPFed over my parking sensors, so Parking Assist doesn't work. They know better! Rookie error, they'll correct it. Parking Assist is not a must have, so I'm not mad or anything. The PZeros pick up EVERYTHING. Leaves, acorns, pine needles, gravel. It sounds like a washing machine in my front wheel wells when I'm on back roads. |
