Wireless charger retrofit?

It seems some folks on the G80/G82 platform have successfully retrofitted wireless charging in their cars.

I understand the OEM part doesn't work that well - but I'd like to personally verify

Anyone know where I can find the part number for 6MT G87? I see 84-10-5-A62-826 for the '23 G80, but I'm unsure if it's the same for G87 - or the 6MT, which I think places it in the armrest storage area instead

T_U_D perhaps you can lend your wisdom?

Sorry to report that the built in wireless charger in my 2022 M240ix gets the battery very hot in my Pixel 7 and may put 1% - 2% on the battery in a 30-minute drive.

What works much better in the on this car is a cord with the USB port in the storage area under the armrest, which fast charges and doesn't overheat the battery.

Subscribed. My HEA spec didn't come with this feature but the location provided seems to be the most convenient place to store my phone. If the retrofit is successful, I wouldn't mind adding this. The armrest feels like it's behind the driver so you have to contort your body to put the phone in and out of that storage compartment. For now, I just don't charge and/or keep my phone in my pocket.

It would be completely pointless and a waste of money to retrofit it.

Disagree, for two reasons:
  • Doesn't need to actually charge, as long as it can maintain battery life when using AA
  • NFC for digital key

Wait until someone takes theirs out and sells it. I took it out of my F87 and sold it on here.

I'll be using a shorter USB-C cable connected to the center storage compartment outlet. I do this on my G05 and G20 whenever I need juice for my iPhone. Not sure if it's the iPhone or just the limit of the in-car wireless charging pads, but the whole process sucks. Not only does the charge they provide barely keep the battery topped up while using Carplay, but the phone itself gets uncomfortably hot, which can't be good for it. On top of that, as phones get bigger, it's hard to get out of the charging locations.

It won’t charge and won’t maintain battery life. And it’ll shutdown your phone so you won’t be able to use it while driving.

NFC for digital key seems to be a thing, but we have confirmed people have the digital key without wireless charger, so it’s not needed.

And some, like me, have wireless charger and no digital key.

Listen to everybody and just plug it in. If you’re so inclined on wireless charging it, buy a wireless charger and plug it in under the armrest or in front of the cupholders, or buy a phone mount with built-in wireless charger.
