How does streaming work?

I have previously posted about issues I' periodically have with SiriusXM streaming channels 'cutting out'. This happens even when there is a good cell signal.

When talking to SiriusXM, they say it is the car. When I take the care in for service I'm told the issue is Apple CarPlay. This makes no sense since streaming works even when I don't have my cell phone with me.

It seems to me that, like with satellite radio, there must be an antenna that allows for streaming channels (SiriusXM, Spotify), likely through cellular signals. There is a thread here about the car being a wifi hotspot, and I imagine that feature - if allowed in the US - would work because the car can receive cellular signals.

Anyway, if streaming works through a cellular signal that the car can receive (in the absence of a cell phone), my guess is that my issue is because of some loose connection between the antenna and whatever 'box' receives the signal from the antenna.

Does anyone know how streaming works in these cars?

Have SiriusXM resend the signal to the car that should fix it.

Thanks, we tried that. That only works for satellite channels, not streaming channels.
