The Lock and boot open works just fine, but not the door unlock on my 328i 2008 key fob. The issue is with 1 of 2 keyfobs. The other key fob works just fine. How do I go about fixing this ? Dealer is asking $500 to replace the key fob. Appreciate any help on this

If one key works and the other doesn't, your dealer is correct that it is probably just the key.

If you want to be sure, you can break open the case to see if it works by pressing the button on the circuit board rather than the button on the case. If it works, just get a new case for under $10 on Amazon. If not, it's the key and you'll need a new one.

There are plenty of DIYs on opening the case.

If two of 3 buttons on Remote A work, and ALL 3 buttons on Remote B work, the fault is in the "Open" button contacts of Remote A. Likely ALL the components inside Remote A case work, EXCEPT the contacts of "Open" button. I would try transferring the contents of Remote A to a NEW Case, and here is an example of such a replacement Case.

You will have to cut open the OLD Remote A, but the replacement shell can be opened or closed WITHOUT cutting. New Battery & BMW Roundel are also available from Amazon.
