Black mesh kidney grill

Hi all,

Please could someone answer this query?

I have asked my dealership about putting the black Grill on my car when it arrives. I would like the mesh grill, but apparently it doesn’t fit correctly on the Msport, it will on fit the 235. I can get the black slatted grill ok. Would this be correct?

That's correct, mine came with the black grill and I like the mess type, however the efficient dynamic flaps behind are not compatible with the mesh.

That's correct, mine came with the black grill and I like the mess type, however the efficient dynamic flaps behind are not compatible with the mesh.

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but the black mesh grill you're talking about, is that this one?? Because I have that on my 220d with M styling and I only just discovered a week ago that the plastic behind it can actually open 🙃

That’s interesting as the dealer advised it isn’t compatible with the air flaps. Hhhmmm

I have an M235i and it came with cerium grey grilles from the factory. One dealership I went to to order a black mesh grille said their system came up with a warning saying it was not compatible (even though it was for the M235i), so I went to another dealership who fitted it no problem for me. I don't really understand why it wouldn't be compatible as you don't interfere with the active grille opening and closing section behind it, it's literally just the front face of it🤷🏻*♂️

Hi Kevin,

Just spoke to parts but they said that the brackets on the mesh grilles don’t match up with the bumper on the 218i?

They won’t fit properly – sorry! ☹

I have seen cars at my local dealer in Sweden with that mesh (diamond as I call it) grill on a 218i Msport...

Got the car yesterday, black grille fitted but with the vertical slats.
TBH, I'm not at all bothered, the gloss black transforms the front end, especially against the solid white paint!

I was told it didn't fit, TBH I think I prefer this one anyway

Looks beatiful.

Im thinking these grills should fit if the GC if equipped with the M package

The black grille regardless of mesh or slats. Makes the front standout.
