M340i order stuck in "Ready for Transport"

Hi all, I'm new here and also new to the BMW brand and I'm excited to be part of this community. I was wondering if anyone may have some insight on the shipping process and how long the stages should take. I ordered the specific M340i I wanted from my local dealer in Allentown PA in the later part of April and the whole process could not have gone more smoothly. However, I have noticed for over two weeks the car has been sitting in the "Ready for Transport" stage and I was wondering if that was normal? I know things are backed up with the pandemic, but the longer it sits in that stage the more I'm thinking a mid-June estimated delivery might be unlikely.

Welcome to the forum! Short answer to your question is yes, it's normal. If I remember correctly my special order M340i was in that "Ready for Transport" mode for at least 2 weeks. I'm sure many others can confirm this as well.

Good luck with the rest of your wait on the new car!

Could be normal. Just keep in mind that the site sometimes doesn't update in real-time. Mine stayed in that status for only a day. But it stayed "at the port" for over 10 days and by the time it transitioned to "in transit" the portal was 6 days behind. All this is to say the website is not 100% reliable. Nothing to worry about.

I currently have a car (non BMW) enroute to Australia. It was manufactured on Mar 17, didn't get loaded on a carrier until Apr 22, so was sitting in the Bremerhaven port for more than 4 weeks. I think the carrier was delayed by the Suez Canal blockage at that time. It's due to arrive in Melbourne in June 2nd, so I believe delivery will be around mid-June for me.

Nice build OP! I almost ordered that exact combo but ended up switching to Mineral Gray at the last minute (somewhat regret it, but oh well).

As others have said that is pretty standard. I dont think I have seen any reports of much more than 2 weeks. In my experience the website also lags behind the phone number (1.844.443.6487) by a couple of days. Also as others have said, sometimes the tracker will skip a couple of steps suddenly.

Very normal. I received mine 2 weeks ago. When I called the genius line after 3 weeks in ready for transport, I found out that it was actually on the ship and much further along.

Call the genius line, they'll be able to tell you more.

Thank you! I had gone there with every intention of ordering Mineral White, but there was a freshly cleaned 330i that just came out of service that was in this exact combination minus the red calipers and I was sold from that point on. I will call this coming week.

I ordered my M340 in early April from a dealer in NJ and its build status has been "Ready for Transport" for about 2 weeks. As others have recommended, I am going to call the Genius Hotline tomorrow.

^ Update: I called the Genius Hotline. The rep (not a genius) I spoke with was of absolutely no help. Basically told me what I already knew, my car was in the "Ready for Transport" stage. I may call back to see if I get someone who actually knows something!

My sales guy was the most help for me. Much more updated than the website and I never had a need to call the so-called Genius Hotline. Sounds like I didn't miss much. Lol.

I'm not sure why some here say to call the genius number. I had the same experience. It sounded like the guy just read the status off the website. Either there is some other number that people are calling, or there is some wide variance in personnel.

I also called my CA and he was just as useless as the person on the Genius Hotline. He essentially told me the same thing that is on the build tracker that I have access to.

My understanding is that all the Genius Hotline and CAs have access to is basically your vehicle inquiry report. So if you're in the same situation I am (been stuck in "Ready to Transport" since 5/3 even though the car is actually at the port) they aren't going to know any details about why it's been taking so long to get a carrier or when that might be.

My CA did tell me that he had heard a rumor that things were either moving slowly at Veracruz or BMW was having issues booking carriers. He said he was contacting a guy he knows in BMW's distribution arm and will let me know what he says is going on.

I just checked my build status. The status bar jumped 4 stages from "Ready for Transport" all the way to "In Transit," which means it's on the way to the dealer! I ordered my car on 4/9 from a dealer in NJ. It was assembled in Mexico. Stay tuned, more to come!

I bet yours got put on the Grand Mark with mine. Other people are saying it hits Newark on 6/11. Hopefully you get it soon!

Update: The status FINALLY changed to "In Transit" yesterday and apparently it was also built in Mexico and is on the Grand Mark like everyone else. I actually got someone extremely helpful on the Genius Hotline, even though I sat on hold forever, and confirmed 6/11 was the estimated arrival in Newark on what she could see on her end. The sooner it gets here the better as I'm trying to coordinating ending my Golf R lease (which wraps up at the end of next month) and picking up this car at the same time, ideally in the same day if possible.
