4x4 Shop Canada's 10.25" Android Head Unit

Anyone have any experience with 4x4 Shop Canada's android head unit? Don't confuse it with Avin. That's a different manufacturer. If anyone is in the GTA area, can you go to the shop to listen to the aux input sound quality?

As far as I have seen, they are all the same unit. Plugs and all. I bought mine from Aliexpress, same as both Avin and 4x4. In fact, when I 'upgraded' from my 7.1 from Avin to Aliexpress 8.1, I kept the same wiring hardness. Plug and play.

Had my 8.1 10.25 screen installed a month ago from 4x4shop but not by them, I had someone where I am install it. But, for those more DIY than I, it is pretty simple to install. I actually had to help the installers as they got confused when installing it - I'd watched the installation videos, they hadn't. It's a good unit, I love the fact that it's an Android tablet, I've gotten rid of their horrible launch screen and replaced with my own. There are some differences in quality, but I'm sure it's the same manufacturer building these out of China and just being rebranded by Avin, Aliexpress, 4x4shp, etc.

I ordered the unit from 4x4 shop Canada this morning and I added the GPS antenna splitter and external microphone with the noise cancellation options. I'll keep you guys posted.

The snapdragon processor they offer is a 625 which is pretty old. I compared the benchmarks on geekbench and the factory processor and snapdragon score about the same. I'm guessing they are banking on ppl not checking out the benchmarks and ordering it blindly thinking expensive is better?

I like the anti reflective screen that 4x4 is now offering plus the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Android 9.0 with WIFI & 4G capability **arriving in mid-June 2019. Im going to wait till this unit is in stock to order.

It's a 625 processor which benchmarks the same as the current unit I have. I couldn't justify an extra $150 on a lateral move. I was playing with the system yesterday for 3 hours straight installing, uninstalling, downloading 2000 songs in spotify and never experienced any lag... As for anti glare, it's still pretty bad. Wish they offered a matte screen

have you installed them yet? can you post a pic of the main idrive screen? as you can see below it looks like crap. the text is pixelated and there's a ton of overscan making everything look big

even though the screen has an antiglare coating, it's still pretty reflective.

I agree. That screen looks like shit. I would rather leave the original screen . Maybe a hood might be available some where.

I bought this Sabaj Da2 dac/amp (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0719FMRKH..._oLTTCb2HZCZ40) to test with my 4x4shop 8.1 unit and the sound quality was definitely better. In the short test I did the highs seemed to be there and so did the lower end bass. However, there is one big con, the volume is very low (even at full) from this unit. Would hooking up another analog amp after the DA2 make a difference?

Update: I'm returning this DAC. Once you power it down, it resets to 50% volume and I have to turn it up every time

Mounted the DAC today and it's a wrap. Couldn't be happier with the unit and I have it sounding better than the stock idrive side

Yup. I returned the Sabaj Da2 because it wasn't loud enough. I'm now using the Dragonfly Red DAC which routes audio from Poweramp and Spotify through USB ->aux

I'd like to try this. A bit more details, please. It looks like one end to Aux; other end to USB from unit?

Those DACs aren't exactly cheap, but I'm in if it improves sound substantially. Any thoughts on Black VS Red?

Which unit do you have? With my inav unit the audio will automatically switch over to USB when it recognizes a DAC. Both Poweramp and Spotify recognize the DAC and automatically route audio. Now I'm having another issue with Spotify where it deletes all downloaded music. This is a common issue with the app.

I went with the Red because it has a "louder" aux output over the Black

How long have you been using the screen? Seems to me more like a lose connection. Check the wiring ad harness.

Don't think so, Coz when I turn the rear camera the flickering stop, so its something related to the screen board, and maybe i'm wrong.

I returned the Dragonfly Red DAC. Turns out at high volumes it produces a hiss which is almost louder than the music. At low volumes it isn't an issue... I also got around to installing the soundkey DAC and wow. At high volume there's no hiss or anything. And it's only $100 compared to the Dragonfly

Thanks for the information. Looks like I need that DAC. I am about to buy this same kit for an X1. I am wondering you think 8.1 is the right choice over the 9.0 and if you would have waited for the newer Qualcomm version. I just want a nice screen that has CarPlay and could be confused as stock. Also since my car came with a non-Nav regular radio I wonder if I could use an OEM iDrive controller instead of the one they provide. Could you also post some pictures of your screen without any protector on it? You chose the Anti-Glare monitor?
