page 74 of the manual - roadside parking lamps
Could someone please explain exactly how this works. Please keep in mind that it could be that my 2008 328i coupe doesn't have the capability.
Thank you in advance. -A ---------- Roadside parking lamps, left or right* There is an additional option of switching on the lamps on the side of the car facing the road when parked. Switching on After parking the vehicle, press the lever up or down beyond the pressure point, arrow 3. The roadside parking lamps drain the battery. Therefore, do not leave them on for unduly long periods of time, otherwise the battery might not have enough power to start the engine.< Switching off Briefly press the lever in the opposite direction to the pressure point, arrow 3. |

when parked and the car is off, you can hit the turn signal stalk to activate the parking lights on one side of the vehicle depending if you hit the stalk up or down. The lights will stay on until you turn them off by hitting the stalk in the opposite direction.

Dude....I use this ALL THE TIME. no kidding. I have a 335i but my buddy's 328i does this.
This is what you have to do. When you turn off your car, and take out the key, tilt the left stalk down (if you want a left side lamp activated) or tilt it up (if you want the right side activated). when you open the door, it will chime to indicate it is activated and you will see the "park-light" symbol in the center of the dials light up. close the door and you'll see it. It is NOT advisable to do this for days on end as it will drain your battery. Overnight is fine and I've done this many times. Enjoy!!!

I just did exactly that, and nothing happened at all. Please be aware that my headlights switch are set to automatic (doubt that has any bearing on this issue) and it's light out (could be related I guess) at the moment here in sunny Boston. Also, when I push the stock down (or up) I am going past the resistance point (per the manual).
What could I be doing incorrectly? -A |

What lights do you expect to come on? when you perform that action with the stock , a lamp in the desired side headlight will turn on and the corner lamp on the tail light will turn on.....mine does that and its an 06.....

-Engine off, no key in ignition. -Drivers door open [Not sure this matters]. -Push turn signal stalk to stop/limit and hold for ~1sec. -"P" appears in center display. -Lights on side of car associated with movement of signal stalk light up. FWIW, I've got a E90 2008 328xi. Last edited by Steve Kaudle; 07-03-2008 at 03:42 PM.. |

Yeah they made that little time limit so people don't accidentally hit it. I like MB's switch better because you can use the switch to turn those lights on instead of having to use the turn signal stalk.
